HOW DO U ACTUALLY DRIVE ONE???

I've owned a 93 WRX now for about 3 days, and have a lot to learn!!!!
HOw do u drive these cars, to get the best performance out of them??
I've found that if I floor thge turbo, it just seems to hesitate and almost feel like it 'chokes' during accelerating. Also, when I give gentle gas to it during the turbo kick-in it works wonderfully.
Could people give general tips on techniques used, and possibly a walk-through the exact movements a driver makes to go for that quick 0-60 dash?!!?

The turbo on the early WRX's is very big so its a little laggy
In the lower gears your best to add the power gently, when your in 2nd or 3rd gear it will be easier to drive quickly as you can down it a gear but basically, under 3.5-4k your turbo's not really doing much so downing a gear and keeping it on the boil is what your really going to have to do (ie around the 4k mark) to get the best performance out of it
As for the 0-60's....
Rev the car to about 4-4.5k rpm, get the clutch bite and when your ready let it slip (when i say slip i dont mean side step, i mean slip it with the fast pedal so you get smooth progression and not lots of noise) and this way you wont kill your clutch quite as quicky

Should hasten to say that it does take a little practice to get the standing starts right, just DONT do a full bore standing start, it WILL knacker your transmission/clutch very quickly

Raks - as Tony says just keep it smooth - dont rev much higher than 5000 or you'll fry the clutch and it will judder for weeks afterwards ! Dont let it slip too much and once you have some forward motion get it engaged as quick as possible.
Having said that you have to experience the rev to 7000 and side step the clutch just the once....it is awesome....but can be expensive

I remove my clutch judder by beating everyone away from the lights with a heavy trailer on the back of the car
I just pull away like normal but floor it once off the clutch..
Rather amusing to see the rep mobiles beat by an estate car pulling a large trailer

Raks If you find that the car is stuttering in 3rd and 5th gear underpower, kinda like hitting a rev limiter then its overboosting, Mine had this prob so when WOT the ecu would let off the throttle to allow the turbo to get rid of the excess pressure, in 3rd it kicked in about 5k revs 60ish and in 5th 5k again about 110-115. There is a cure for it and they guys at ARG in acton could sort it for you not sure of cost tho.
