P1 top speed
#1
Allowing for the 10% average inaccuracy of speedos I think it more likely you were traveling at around 150 mph which is what most STI's and P1's are accurately measured at.
Still 160+ on the speedo does look good
167mph - 10%= 150.3 mph
Cheers

Has anyone maxed out their P1? (And I mean hit the rev limiter in top, not attached lots of dodgy body kit and ICE). I recently achieved a GPS-measured 167.8mph flat out, and on another run got an indicated 170mph at 7400rpm (i.e. 400rpm still to go), which is probably around 162mph because the speedo overreads by about 7-8mph at these speeds (according to my GPS).
Both these runs were on hot sunny days, on a cold night the turbo would be working better so an even higher speed should be possible. In both cases there was no noticeable wind (which can add or subtract up to 10mph).
Has anyone tried v-maxing an STi or 22b? Because it's obvious that Subaru's top speed figures are WAY out. Also has anyone stuck their P1 on a rolling road? Also how much taller is the P1s gearing compared to the other 276bhp cars?
P.S. the wind noise becomes very intrusive above about 140mph - it is obvious the car was not originally designed with higher speeds in mind!

Cant comment on the P1 but I know of a standard MY99 that has been driven off the clock for long periods of time with ease (ie 160mph +). My WRX cuts out at 112mph still though!!!

Do you have the longest driveway in history???

Without incriminating myself here....I had "a mate" who "allegidly" did 165mph in "his" STiv4 4 door - so probably about 155mph.
It wasn't the top speed that surprised "him" but the speed at which it got there - especially planting it at 100mph....so he says.....

I had 152 mph on the speedo on a nice summer evening, minimal wind and flat. Obviously real speed is circa 140 mph-ish. Great feel. Checked out the revs and was at 7500 exactly, and wouldn't go any faster as this is where the rev limiter has an effect.
Car was a v-ltd type R, WRX not STI !!
Roof hatch starts making noise at between 100-130mph depending on wind. Its a good speed indicator reminding you you just gone past 100-ish. You don't hear over 130mph for obvious reasons (concentrating more on the road/track etc).

I've seen 150mph on the clock of my standard MY99 wagon - could be less than 140 allowing for speedo error (although I had the tyres pumped up, so might be reasonably accurate).
Was still accelerating, but v.v. gently (as in might not have reached 151!) - had to back off for the bend at the end of the... runway.
Don't know what the aerodynamics of the 2/4dr are like, but the wagon's seem to be appalling, steering gets light at 120 and acceleration deteriorates from about 110. (Think my old standard Corrado VR6 was probably better over 110, and with only 190bhp! Saw max 150 on the clock for that too).

Were i to have hit the Rev limiter in 5th (which of course i haven't because that would be naughty...) I could report that it scares the living sh1te out of you when it kicks in, along the lines of "tyre blow/engine bang/i'm gonna die!"
Car is an Sti5 Type RA V-Ltd, so it WILL max out due to short gears (the figures seem to be 20mph/1000rpm)
MInd you i've changed the wheels to 18's so no idea what the rolling circumferance is!

On the way back from Powerstation, I had an indicated 165 mph on the speedo, (about 6pm in Febraury) in my P1 before I sold it, and it still had a bit more to go. I backed off because I was worried about getting caught, and thought I had better slow down to let a certain RB5 catch me up.

Damn,
I got a thread closed for laughing about scaring (scare - ing - not the knife type) old ladies.. You lot can get away with talking about maxing the cars on the highways!!! WICKED!!!! Nice one moderators!!!!
I'll have to have a go in the next 30 zone i can find - theres one with an infants school halfway down a nice hill - should be easy to get up to the limiter in 5th!! I'll post the picks!!
LOL

Cannot comment on imports but I've done a GPS-measured 237 km/h (148mph) on my standard Euro-spec MY99. The speedo was over 250 at the time.
German autobahns are nice for maxing out the car, you just need to be there very early on Sunday morning to avoid other traffic. Still wouldn't recommend driving longer periods at that kind of speeds. It requires total concentration on the driving and road ahead and if something happens, it's going to be very ugly.

I remember pulling over to let you past. Don't forget I have seen your high speed driving and was worried about having you behind me!
Anyway after you span at the airfield, ran onto the grass at Donnington (twice) and had an incident with a shopping trolley at Tescos I am glad I did let you past

babber - lets face it, nobody can justify this thread, talking about max speed of our cars, at about 100 mph over the speed limit !!! Jza is having a laugh - it's hardly the thread to get on your high horse in, is it ?

TRIGGER,
Most people have done this on airfields, etc. No one in there right mind would be doing those sorts of speeds on UK roads.
As for having a go at Jza, there's a bit of history there. So hence the reply
Jza, I not saying anything more, you don't need any more encouragement.

I've seen 250kph on my car MY00 UK Spec with more in it, not an accurate reading I'd say.

I pity the person you sold your P1 to!
The RB5 if fitted with a PPP would of course have been in front of you on 'normal' driver challenging as opposed to engine straining roads!

I used a GPS which measured 167.8mph flat out in top - the speedo had gone off the dial. At an indicated 165 it is doing about 157-8mph. 10% by the way is the MAXIMUM legal error of a car's speedometer, so it's very unlikely a manufacturer would risk lawsuits by designing it to overread that much. The average over-read in mine I have found is about 5-6% at high speeds.
