The Evo sick
[July 18 2001]
Mitsubishi has announced a recall affecting its rally boy special, the much-loved Mitsubishi Evo.
If you’re a proud owner of a rather special Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV or V, build between December 1996 and July 1998, you’ll need to get your four-wheeled pride and joy down to your nearest Mitsubishi dealer.
The recall involves the replacement of the Active Yaw Control electronic control unit (ECU), which had been improperly programmed, potentially leading to damage to the rear axle. The recall was originally announced in Japan last year, but it’s taken some time to track down any cars that were shipped from the Land of the Rising Sun to far away shores.
The recall is expected to affect 156 of the specialist four-wheel drive, 155-mph cars, which have been traced to the UK – the vast majority of them unofficially imported via the grey market.
Owners will be written to in the next few weeks by Mitsubishi Motors in the UK and asked to contact their nearest Mitsubishi dealer, or where applicable Ralliart UK, to have the rectification work carried out free of charge.
