I just received a letter from Newcastle Parking Control office.

It's basically saying that I haven't paid a parking ticket that was issued on a car that I owned at that time, the date was 14/11/1998, 32 months ago.

They've sent me a form to fill in and return with the £40 fine and if I wasn't the driver at the time to fill in the details fo who was. How the f*** am I supposed to remember that far back, I've never had a ticket on any of my cars.

I have no knowledge of this alleged fine and this is the first I've heard of it, what should I do ????

I'd just ignore it. Is there an (official) organisation called the Newcastle Parking Control office? Sounds a bit suss to me.

Also would've thought that you would be facing (if at all) bailiffs or court warrant by this time.

Sounds well fishy to me. If it is, how'd they know you used to own the car...

Get it checked out for sure with the police.

The letter is 100% kosher with an enclosed envelope to return it back to them.

It states "This excess ticket has not been paid and payment is now overdue. Subsequent enquiries with the DVLA at Swansea have revealed that you are the registered keeper of this vehicle"

I sold the car in February 1999 and have had 2 others since then.

I'm gonna call into their office tomorrow as I pass nearby and talk to someone about this as politley as possible. If a guy with a goatie beard and a small hand comes out(Jeremy Beadle) I know it's a wind up.

Seems like Newcastle City Council can't get their act together, I left Newcastle 18 months ago and they still send Council tax bills to an address I no longer live at and I've informed them twice.

This is probably correct about that time the incometence that is Newcastle council failed to collect over £1,000,000 yes £1Million in parking fines and they are now trying to catch up. Imagine the amount of interest lost on this, this is why my rates are so high and I can't afford a P1!!

I'd be more concerned if the DVLA think you are still the registered keeper!!

Just tell them that someone you know, who has since died, was driving it. Doesn't have to be a relative, anybody from the obits column will do. How they gonna prove you didn't know them?

The council have simply checked with the DVLA to see who owned the car on the date of the offence.

I suggest you get in touch with the relevant appeals department. I would also find out whether there is a time limit on being liable for parking tickets. Three years seems like a long time to wait before receiving a ticket.
