Window Tinting
#1
I'm thinking about tinting the rear windows on my car. Don't really want to use pentagon glass, it's good but a bit too expensive for me so I'm looking at the film route.
Has anyone heard of or used a company near Southampton called South Coast Tints?
Any reports on them, good or bad?

Try Secur-Fix, based in Hook, Hampshire (although they offer a mobile service and have locations they can use as well)
Cost me £200 to do my Impreza.
"The number you require is: 07970 193498"
Hope this helps

I've not use Secur-Fix, but have heard lots of good reports about them. Put it this way, don't think Andy would recommend them if they were not any good.
Any ideas if they'd come down to deepest darkest kent?

Have not used them yet, but was considering it. This is their reply to my enquiry.
"Hi, and thank you for contacting us.
The complete cost for tinting the windows on your Subaru Impreza Estate is £180 (Price not including windscreen) for any shade - light (35% VLT), medium (20% VLT) or dark (5%VLT = Limo black).
Installation time is 2 to 3 hours depending on your model.
Our film grade is a neutral grey/black named - Sunguard PerformX Steel.
On all vehicles we fit our light shade of tint (35% Visible light transmittance) to all front drivers 'door' and passenger windows for visibility reasons. All windows behind the front doors are exempt from the regulations. Our Light smoke is generally accepted by the Police.
We are warning every customer that Police are clamping down on excessively tinted front door windows.
We have many photos of our customers tinted vehicles, available for viewing to aid your tint choice if necessary.
Window tinting is all we specialize in, we require you to bring your vehicle to the workshop, and we have a waiting room.
We work by appointment only and if you would like any further information with no obligation or to make a booking, please contact us on 02380 336474.
Our premises are - Unit 13
Longbridge Ind Pk,
Floating Bridge Rd,
Southampton,
Hants SO14 3FL
- 2 mins from Ocean Village entrance in docks area of Southampton we can email or post directions if required.

I had mine done a while ago, and I wnet to them! I guess that's why it was cheaper! I was very happy with the work, as are a few Scoobynet users.
I went for a light smoke to remain legal, but it was very effective. Sorry for the poor piccie, but the light level was low.

I've used Pentagon & Secure Fix.
The base material (film) is pretty standard and used by everyone - the only difference is the tint level. IIRC 20% is the legal minimum for the front side windows, behind the driver you can go as dark as you like, but IMHO they need to be all the same.
Pentagon were top quality - absloutely perfect, but they did need the car for a whole day and are based in Acton (West London) and are expensive.
Secure Fix are about half the price, but the quality is not as good. There are lots of very small bubbles - you can only see them if your a couple of inches from the glass, but they're there ! However, from a normal distance they look fine.
On balance I'd probably use Secure Fix again - it's not perfect but plenty good enough - think M3 vs Scoob.
BTW - Pentagon is used by most of the London based top end garages, when I was there they had several brand new rollers and mercs, an un-registered 911 etc.
Be careful with the windows - at the end of the day it is just a sticky film. Pentagon did my wifes Jeep and we managed to scratch a hole in the back window by having a boot full of stuff and a suitcase rubbing against the glass. We had to take it back in and get it re-done. That was about 5 years ago and we've been more careful since and there have been no problems.

SecurFix did my MY'00 Turbo and my P1 - both were perfect jobs.
S55 HOT - if you had mentioned this to SecurFix, they would have redone the job on the car, they are just as good as Pentagon and value their customers.

To be honest I never really thought about complaining - Pentagon have a dedicated facility with good dust extraction etc. Secure Fix don't and they charge a lot less - my expectations were lower.
Maybe I should be clearer - the bubbles are pin head size - and lots is probably 10-20 - they are not really an issue, but they are there !
Is your car really perfect ? With Pentagon I could go over it with a magnifying glass and you'd swear it was factory tinted glass.
