Steam Clean = Rust!?
#1
OK, call me fussy....
I had the engine bay steam cleaned a few times which has resulted in certain bits corroding/rusting. It's at its worst around the "Power Steering Tank and pipes" (However i think this was caused by a leak b4 i had the car) which, along with certain other bits i intend to treat/hamerite etc. (Good idea or not??).
Also, practically all of the nuts & bolts u find in the engine bay r well rusted which leads to my question..
- What can i do about this?
- Is there anywhere that manufactures/sells non-rusting (Anodised??) ones?
- If the answer to the above is yes then what is the feasibility of replacing them one by one?
PS. I am not very mechanically minded!!(Understatement!)
Your ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I no i have seen comments about it being safer 2 leave all the dirt on although there r sum goodies u can get 2 protect the engine bay from nasties. I no there's a "protection" bottle that i got c/o the wax wizard group buy starter kit i got the other month & while i must confess i aint got round 2 cleaning the engine yet if it's half as good as the wax is on the outside then it is the mutts nutts

I know, i know...
But i did & it did look better for it for a few months but what with the summer weather (note the sarcasm!) proved that it just wasn't the way to go. :-(
My plan is to try and sort it out and then look into the "Wax Wizard" product or get Subaru to re-coat, but i am not happy with the way it is. I am very fussy about the condition of all areas of the car not just the bits that "Other people see".
Keep them ideas coming!

the first lesson...do not sdteam clean! Its fine and in order to use a presuure washer. After cleaning the engine bay one simply protects with a clear film product.
The fact that some nuts etc have rusted etc these can easily be replaced and anodised bolts etc are freely available.
the fact that Subaru is about the only manufacturer to coat their engine bays says a lot about the quality of the steel work in the first place..its crap and I have seen under the bonnet of a great many different marques.
It is normally suffice to just clean the engine bay once and once only. All that is required thereafter is to protect and once a year use running water to remove the dust etc.
It is methodology with correct products and correct equipment etc.

Keep em coming guys!
Mark: Chatted to u for a bit at donnington whilst you were working on an engine bay.
- What products were u using? (WW of course!)
- Do these act like the subaru wax? (Protective)
- Any ideas where i might find the right size anodised bolts etc. (bearing in mind the pitch of the thread)?
Thanks in advance
