MY01 Performance
#1
Dear All
I have read several threads on here regarding initial lack of performance with the new model impreza and that at around 5k the engine loosens up and really starts to go. I must admit that having owned my MY01 for 4 months I have been dissapointed with the performance, in particular the hesitance and full throttl. The engine pulls then starts to choke, pulls again, choke etc. etc.
and being a sceptic by nature didn't hold out much hope for my car. HOWEVER this week I passed 3.5k and last night while driving home gave it full chat....wow! there was no hesitance and evidence of the old mid range turbo thump of the previous model. Thinking it was a fluke I twated it again this morning and if anything the car felt slightly quicker than last night.
If the car gets any quicker by 5K I will be over the moon as the rest of the car is fantastic.

That's good to hear Steve.
Mine has done around 2K, already noticed it starting to losen up and perform better, has done since it went in for its 1000mile service, if i can expect it to get faster then that's excellent news.
I reckon i can feel it perform a little better each time i give it a good work out..

maybe its just psychological, but I think mine is also getting much smoother and faster. Its at 3.5k.
Its a bit slow when it first starts up but I have been ****-retentive about letting it warm up a bit before moving off and also letting it idle for a minute or two before switching off - this seems to help things.

Schtop !.. What are you doing.. This car is not ready yet.
The new MY01 like any new car fresh from the show room has to be given time for the engine components to bed in. Just chill out and enjoy the new car experiance and look at those zero's prefixed on your odometer. They will soon disappear.
I have done 6k in mine and its humming nicely now. I'm very pleased with it so far I have had no problems with acceleration, And I do get a thump in the back when I put my foot down and the turbo kicks in ( I have read lots of reports that this does not happen in the MY01)
My previous car was a Lexus IS200, I loved the luxury and the way it drove but it is a bit gutless. To me the MY01 is a Lexus on steriods... Yes I do know what the older scoobs are like. I had a PPP'd MY98 at one stage. But the Lexus kinda spoilt me when it came to some of the creature comforts.. So the MY01 seemed the best middle ground.
To me the car is more comfortable, Safer, as quick as my MY98( Atleast when I get PPP). I didn't like the front lights at first. But they perform so well when blagging down a twisty B road at night I have grown to love them ( Function over form)
I must be jammy barsteward and bought the only well sorted MY01 around.

anyone have any more info on this ECU remap... is it a Manufacturer recall or is this just part of the PPP ECU replacement?
I'm in the States driving a WRX and we get a lot of reports of the stuttering under acceleration.

No you're not the only one mate...I love mine too...standard MY01 wagon ...5.5k ...starting to really hum along in the last 1000 or so. Took it over to France last week, and cruises at 100mph no problem. I don't think that's over the limit there is it?

To be truthful my MY01 is totally gutless compared to my old STI at the moment. I am hoping that after fully running it in and PPPing it, it will get quicker otherwise roll on the new STI.... or hello evo 7.
Sorry but thats how it is for me.

If the MY01 does loosen up and gain a bit more punch as it gets closer to 5k, then it will be interesting to read the Fast Fleet review in next months' Evo magazine - theirs has 3691 miles on it at the moment - wonder if they'll notice a difference?

Just mod it. So far I have done a turbo back BPM exhaust system, Blitz DSBC boost controller, K&N Panel filter, Cusco Catch can, and 17 OZ P1s on Kumho rubber. Night and day. Love it, but I want more. Next week my hybrid Vf22, catless up-pipe and Cusco Zero2 coilovers arrive. In three weeks Link ECM. I am trying to track down a set or New Age STI injectors(520cc) and a Silicone inlet pipe. I cannot wait. The goal, 350hp and 2950 Curb weight. Watch out!
