"Its time to start the music.........."
You could always try :
"i was just trying to see what she would do....."
Don't think they are going to slap your wrists and let you off....hard luck.
Atleast tommorow is another day (without a scoob for some!)

I got done nearly 4 years ago at an average of 137.1mph over 0.5 mile after pleading , begging and bull****ting , need the car for work, visiting sick grandmother, etc got the ban from 6 months to 28 days but the fine went from £150 to £450 plus costs , believe it or not my insurance only went up by £50 at the next renewal (3 months later) although that was on a (lightly modified)1991 2.0 CDi Cavalier , plod had trouble keeping up in his V6 ha ha ha

I think anything over 99mph now carries a mandatory 6 month ban, but you'd need to contact a solicitor to see what the real deal is - I think convicting code is SP60.
I was done at 102 on the M3 in 1996 and got away with a week ban and £200 (pleaded the car needed for work scenario) and the magistrates were fairly OK and insurance company didn't seem to take to much of a dislike to what happened.

137mph in a an 8v 2.0 Cavalier
I had the SRi model and it would never hit anywhere near that - you must have been way off the clock!

I heard on the news this morning that a woman was let off from a speeding offence when she had been caught doing 100mph+. Her deffence...get this.....she hadn't had sex for 48 hours and was rushing home to her boyfriend who was waiting for her.
Like I say I heard this while struggling to get ready for work so it could be complete bull but worth a try
sorry it's not constuctive.

11.30am, oh dear. Not the best time to get nicked really, unless the road was totally clear....
You could be in some stick mate, contact a solicitor and hope for the best.

My last speeding conviction (back in 1986) was similar. Picked up my new R5GTT late afternoon and after 'showing' it to my friends, thought I'd go to Wales to visit the parents. 10pm pulled over doing 111.6 Got a 3 month ban Lost loads of money when attempting to sell the car back to the garage.......but that taught me one helluva lesson

Some actress from a soap (Coronation Enders?) got off a ban by saying she needed the car to visit her bulimia/anorexia therapist. Worth a try. Have a huge vindaloo before you go to court and puke all over the court room floor for authenticity...
I gather that over 120 it is an authomatic ban regardless of job loss/wife and kids starving to death etc. Between 100 and 119 you can avoid a ban if it will cost you your job or make you suffer undue hardship - but only once in any 3 year period. With the current climate you're probably looking at a 6 month ban and a hefty fine. Get some professional advice before court.

Somebody posted the name of a solicitor specializing in these things on here once. I would suggest a search, but I can't think what you'd put in the search terms. It was a Greek-sounding name I think.

Hah! I beat you (how proud am I - not). Got stopped around the 'undred within 1/2 hour of picking it up with the classic 'who do you think you are? Colin McRae?'... Welsh coppers are nicer though, he justifiably called me a **** and let me off!
I took a note of that 'Greek sounding chap' solicitor and it is Andreas Serghis 01273 626762. Tell him you are a 'megalo malaka' and see what he can do!
Personally I'd take it on the chin and apologise very genuinely in person - if you actually feel that way of course.

I just got banned today for 28 days due to being clocked at 93mph in a 60 on an a road.
The guildlines are 30mph over the limit is an instant ban, then it comes down to personnal circumstances.
sorry mate

No you're not Get a decent solicitor and you will get away without a ban. Heavy fine, and 6 points, but a good solicitor will get you off (assuming you can show some degree of hardship )

Thats bull**** don't kick a guy when he is down 100mph or over carries an DISCREYIONARY disqualification with GUIDELINE duration of 21 to 56 days which less than 50% of individuals get, there is no mandatory ban. The madatory 6 month ban is a 'totty up' ban - ie 12 points - but even those can normally be avoided once. An SP60 is a FPN in a 60 limit.

As said above - there is no instant ban, it is discretionary, the guidlines are merely the length of ban IF APPLIED. Did you have a solicitor with you Jason. You seem to have been dealt with very harshly if you did or had a crap brief
RIMPY - the moral is GET A SOLICITOR - and get one who specialises in motoring offences. Going into court without one is more stupid than the speeding in the first place. I know a very good specialist if you need!

Are you a member of the AA - If so ring their legal dept and they will supply a lawyer who does this thing 10 times a day. (For a very small fee).
If not get a lawyer - your local Citizen advice bureau may know someone who does this type of stuff regularly.
Your insurance will be mainly unaffected. Most insurance companies will disregard 2 offences for speeding before they hit you with an increase. Better to declare it than not.
When in court look like you are about to cry. Try to look upset and if you do have to speak make sure you "regret your actions, won't do it again, are selling the car as it obviously too fast and you will be getting a diesal instead etc (Doesn't have to be true but it all sounds good).
Don't do it again until the next time. (Buy a radar detector and only boot it when you have noone else about)
PS last time I was nicked was by an unmarked rover 600 on the M40 at 98. Got 6 points and £175 fine about 5 years ago.

Dragon - sorry if I sounded over harsh
I was in a similar situation to RIMPY 6 months ago, and got loads of scare-mongers telling me exactly what you said as if in a position of knowledge. When I discovered the truth (a week later after consulting my solicitor) I was relieved, but then angry with these so-called friends who had caused me sleepless nights through worry with their advice/knowledge. Living in the middle of nowhere, 6 months without license would be a major life inhibitor - AND an expensive one
Doing over 100mph now-a-days is stupid and you 'deserve' everything you get, BUT most of us have done it on occaisions, and would want support from friends, (and e-friends ) rather than depressing scare-mongering
RIMPY (or anyone else) - As I said I have recently been through this, so am pretty knowledgable about the protocol, ways to get round it, tricks to try and likely punishments etc - please feel free to email me with questions etc Good Luck! and slow down - its not as hard as you think

No problem; I'm always very careful what I say, and if I don't know something, or am unsure, I always make it clear, ie: 'I think' and 'contact a solicitor for the real deal'.
You are right, these things can get out of control and often obscured the more times information and opinions are passed around.
Jim.

snipes,
I was only kidding (see my note on page 2 re: 'Don't the American's have some sort of **** up day?')...I was merely bantering with you, as I do with the US guys here at work
Yes, your fuel is mega cheap where as ours is equivalent of $1.20 a litre

A colleague of mine got done a few months ago at 115mph on the M62 - he got a 30 day ban and £400 fine - just pleaded guilty and did not use a lawyer. Means he'll never escape from company car insurance. Stupid ******* now has another court date booked for doing 70 on a 40 dual carriageway in the North East. Guess the lesson is don't drive a hairdresser's silver Audi TT......
Good luck - my sympathies are with you, as has been said, we've all done it. Anyone any idea what effect this has on personal insurance? I think my colleague's been told the ban stays on his licence for 5 years!!!

Stays on license for 4 years ('live for 3) but counts for insurance for 5 years. I have been told a ban will have a 10-15% effect on premiums, speeding points (even 12 in 5 years) doesn't have an enormous effect - normally 10% max.

I think this 'stays on the insurance for 5 years' is the insurance companies trying to pull a fast one. What happened to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act? If the conviction is 'spent' (if it's removed from the licence, it must be 'spent') there should be no need to declare it.
