I think 3rd is 58Mph at 7500 Rpm
LOL - redline in third is about 90 mph Neil......you must still have your running in buzzer set at about 4500 rpm

I would'nt know Dave I don't do 90 on public roads

I'll dig out the correct max speeds per gear when I get back

I did have another muppet idea though. Drive past a 30mph limit Gatso at 60 and then see what the photo says..

LOL - I had an Astra GSE in 1989 that had a digital dash - you could switch the speedo from mph to kph and impress the laydeez

John mate, you haven't seen the type of laydeez I was trying to impress in 1989

Neil
Strictly in the interests of science, I checked out 7500 rpm in third this morning - 80mph (on my uncalibrated speedo)

For the record max speeds in each gear
1st 38
2nd 58
3rd 79(not too far off dave)
4th 103
5th 142
6th 148

MPH per 1000 Rpm
1st 5.1
2nd 7.8
3rd 10.5
4th 13.7
5th 19
6th 24.5(Looooong gear)

So to work out your speedo accuracy keep the car at say 3000 rpm in 5th and multiply by 3 you should get 57Mph

Dave,
I don't want to know the sort of Laydeez you were trying to attract in 1989. But does Carolyn know of your dark and sordid past?

I like the "drive past a 30mph Gatso at 60mph & see what the photo says". LOL.

Anyway any ideas lads, please? getting fed up with the GPS BlueI bleeping at me when I can clearly see from the speedo that I'm doing dead on 30 or 40mph, as the case may be.

Yes, the origin is ok, nowt wrong with it.

As far as I remember the bluei tells you your current speed. So believe that and look at your speedo to compare. The RPM method above also works. Even better slow down to 25 or 35 to be sure. The speed limit is a limit not a target as my old IAM observer used to say..

Neil,

The Bluei measures current speed and reports every 2 seconds. Holding the car steady for about 10 seconds at the indicated speed (not easy to do while trying to keep half an eye on the road ahead) on several occasions has produced the same results.

Never had this problem on my wagon (with the same Bluei), using the same roads now as I did then.

Point is, whether I use the rpm method, the rhythm method, the withdrawal method or whatever to check my speedo, if its out does anyone know someone who can fix it??!!

Ta

Get a mate to sit in the car and time you between the two white blobs on a motorway when you are doing 60Mph

Also use the rev counter. I think 3rd is 58Mph at 7500 Rpm. If your speedo shows 70 then its a little out. I did this other day, my speedo showed 60.

Also if you know anyone with a GPS you can use that as well
