I decided to ask shell the simplest question poss regards octane drop off whilst it was sat in there tanks this was there simple reply.
Hello Mr McCord,
Shell Optimax has a guaranteed octane value of 98 RON, the typical value is
98.6 RON, the octane value will not degrade over a few days whilst it is
stored on site.
The majority of sites have two or more deliveries per week, these are in the
region of 8,000 - 15,000 litres per delivery, so the fuel does not stay in
the tanks for very long.
Petrol can be stored for upto six months before any noticable change in the
octane value.
