Bumpsteer is the change in steering angle ( toe, which way your wheels point!) across the suspension travel( bump and rebound), ie when the suspension is compressed (bump) the wheel will toe in or out more even though there is no additional steering input.
To get rid of it you pay some one a lot of money to adjust your steering rack!
I'm not too sure of the pro's and con's, SDB will be able to give you a fuller response, it'll probably make more sense too! You have to remember cars are very complicated and everything on them is a compromise!
