Just trying to be fair
People forget the mods are in a loose-loose position much of the time

This was one of those lose-lose situations
If the post had stood then Rich and his family could have been bitterly hurt at a very sensitive time.
If the post was removed, then we get accused of being facist dicators. BUT eventually it'll all blow over. The potential damage to Rich and his family would last far longer
In the end I chose the feelings of Rich and his family over any flack I might take over removing the thread. I hate removing threads and this was the first i've removed for months. Just sometimes we need to take the path of least hurt.

It isnt about whether you know someone or dont, its about the irony of the whole thing and offering support to Rich, who I know well and consider to be one of my friends.
It has also made many of us look at life in a different light, and be more appreciative of what we have, and what we should do with it.
Mark - If you saw the look on Rich's face today, and the look/appreciation of his parents at the Subaru/Scoobynet contingent you would change your tune. Guaranteed.

He was one of us. He will be missed. I would've done the repect thing by running my engine the other day, but my car was still in pieces the. As memory to him, I took my now completed car for a speed trip down the bypass. He would have wanted that..
edit: Well I guess he would as he's modded his car up to the magical 300 mark himself.

Nice to see the moderators have taken a Mao-ist view on censorship. Presumably this thread'll be locked too, now.

Great. So I start a thread about how I find this community's reaction to a tragic event offensive, and now I'm being told to go away?
Fair enough. I was on the way out anyway - today's reminded me exactly why I stopped reading the 'General' forum anyway.

You ****. Its not about everybody jumping on any "bandwagon"
Its about making someone who's feeling as low as possible a tiny bit better by saying that they have your sympathy.
It doesent really matter that we havent met, its about saying kind things to someone who needs to hear kind things.
I'd appreciate it if I was in Rich's shoes.
Have some tact for christs sake.
astraboy.

Mark,
While I personally believe your post was badly timed, I appreciate where you are coming from.
Very difficult circumstances for some concerned.
Suggest we leave it at that and move on.

Well said Astraboy!
Mark - I kinda can see your viewpoint, but the thing is they're all clearly marked threads but you don't have to read 'em if you don't want too....and yes, I know that's the standard response!

Okay, I'm still here. For a few minutes, anyway. To respond:
TBH, no time would have been better. If I'd posted this in 3 days' time, I'd have been accused of dragging up the past, or whatever. <sigh>
I agree.

Oh, and it's 'to' by the way; 'too' has a completely seperate meaning altogether.

But by the same token, no one has to read MarkO's threads either.
Works both ways.
D
Sorry, not meaning to be in any way confontational, but we must also accept the posting of that with which we do not necessarily agree.

MarkO
This has gone the same bad way a thread some weeks back went when someone posted up for some sympathy about a lost pet.
IMHO just forget about this thread now and ignore any of the "Nick" threads.
These things just drag on forever else and lots of people get wound up and things said etc.

The wonders of Free Speech!
I guess, being an (allegedly) democratic nation we all have the right to say whatever we want no? In the same vein, do we not also have the right to 'Not' listen?
Mak (feeling like a shrink...)
