Oh yeah it does pay
But it stings every time you have to stick £40 in the tank for a week and halfs motoring which Judging by everyone esles stories is a meagre weekly milage

Question

So, I'm a new fan of the scooby range, but as still a virgin in the scooby realm, have a few unanswered questions....

The first of course, where did the name scooby come from??

Secondly, yeh I love the car, but why should I get one??

Thirdly, I have already started thinking about my mods, but have decided that the types of mods I should do first, are those that can accomodate for performance upgrades. Smart thinking? Or thinking too far ahead??

NSF - Welcome to the board

Firstly the name: Sort of rhyming slang, which I think first appeared in Performance Car (now Evo Magazine): Scooby Doo / Subaru.

Why should get one? Why not? Subaru have done what Peugeot did with the 205GTi and what Ford did with the Escort / Sierra Cosworth - open up a new generation to affordable performance cars. By affordable I mean a car that in performance and handling terms can hold its head high in the company of cars costing 2 or 3 times as much.

Don't be fooled into thinking this make the Impreza a cheap car to run - it isn't. Insurance is expensive, petrol consumption is poor and main dealer servicing isn't cheap. That said, it is still great fun and for the price, I haven't found much to compare with it

Do your homework, checkout the insurance and then do some searches in the technical forums - you'll find all the info you need about mods. Don't go and mod the car straight away - learn what it does in standard guise and then work out what you want to change. Going out and immeadiately upping the engine to 400BHP and not upgrading the brakes is a recipe that will see you wrapped around a lamppost in no time

Cheers
Chris

Thumbs up

Chris, u are a knowledgeable man!

Thanks for clearing up the mystery for the 'scooby' name.

In terms of insurance, I have sorted that through a 'contact' of mine, who has given me a really good deal. I drive a Porsche 924S at the mo, and he gave me a quote of £100 extra, to insure me on a Scoobie! sweet!

In terms of fuel, I'm sure that If I stay away from the devils rev band, Ie. anything over 4000, I'll be fine. Oh, anything will be cheaper than the Porsche, as I have to put in 4* replacemnt, expensive!

Mods wise, I was going to leave for a while anwyays. The car itself is going to leave me out of pocket!

But what about the idea of mod-ding the car, so that it can cope with perfoamce upgrades, ie. induction, turbo valve, chip and boost control, at a later date?

Or should I just do it all in small steps?? Induction, and then b.discs (2) valve and then down pipes etc. etc.

I ask myself that question every time I need to fill up or pay the bank. I get the answer every time I drive the car.

>can accomodate for performance upgrades. Smart thinking? Or >thinking too far ahead??

Look around first, a lot of debate and discussion has taken place on this and many other points too.

Chris its actually much older than that

In the film 'Always'(1989), John Goodman refers to Richard Dreyfus’ job as a Subaru car salesman as selling “Scooby Doos”.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

<picks self up from behind desk, wipes eyes>

And the point of buying the car is what, exactly?

Your average UK scoob, despite having over 200ft/lb of torque, won't deliver it very low down. So I politely suggest you scrap the above idea?

Good luck. They're fun, but pricey. Or: They're pricey, but fun.

FFS, get a life. I believe the 'silence' was optional? Has the thought ever occurred that not everyone reads every thread on Scoobynet?

The 'optional' silence would have started at 15:00:00 and ended at 15:02:00, you guys need to stop being so quick to flame.

15:00 to 15:01 = 1 minute
15:01 to 15:02 = 1 minute
15:02 to 15:03 = 1 minute

Just my way of looking at but that is three minutes!

MarkO - I thought you never came in this forum!

I didn't intended my comments as a flame, especially in the circumstances.

ACyually if were gonna be pedantic then the thread you posted up said there would be a 2 minute silence at the begining so 3.02 would have been the end.

Feel for Nicks family but can people please stop using this to take a pop at each other!
