22B shop manuals...
#1
I hope you don't mind me cross posting this from the General Technical forum, but I need some help.
Okay guys & gals, this is a strange request. I'm trying to help a friend locate some shop repair manuals for the 22B, particularly the ones related to the engine. The car apparently has a bit of rod knock. I think the car has about 50K kilometers on it and looks like it's been driven very hard.
The strange part is that someone has imported one here to Houston, TX. The dealer, their service manager, and technician, are at a loss to figure out what to do with the car. So far they have had no luck with SOA (Subaru of America).
Does anyone have any idea where they could find this info? They are going to try and pull the engine today, but I don't think they'll be able to do much after that.
Any assistance, ideas, etc will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Adam

hmmmm.
dont know how much we can help.
but I can tell you this.
The car has ej20g heads and is a closed deck 2.2, it is not the same as an ej22T engine liek those available in the us, but probably similar to the legacy blocks.
It has the same crank and rods as other wrxs of that age (97-98) version 4.
The workshop manuals are impossible to get hold of. Subaru UK only have an insert which cover the differences between uk turbos and 22bs.
Engine wise it is no different from a version 4 sti really apart from the bore being larger. cant think of the parts which are 22B specific! try looking for tech specs on closed deck ej22s, they should be available in the US for other cars.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check out 22B.com and see what they have to offer.
You're right to a point Dan B. This car was brought in on a exhibition/show car registration. The owner has a year to keep it here, then it either has to be crushed or sent back. Supposedly the few 22B's that made over here in '98/'99 or so for the press to test and review were crushed. I can't imagine the Feds not giving them the option to send them back though. That would suck to have to crush such a limited production beauty!
