Unhappy

I know, I know, I should never sell a scoob but I am not Rich and the wife wouldn't drive it [ some might say that is a bonus] But it is sold.

I am being brave and asking your honest opinions of my new car,and before we start, I know it doesn't match a Scoob !!

Its a V plate Peugeot 306 GTi 6 Rallye.

So go on tell me what you think but don't judge it against a Scoob and don't be ruthless [ especially you Muppets.]

306GTI is cool - v. practical + pretty quick + 6 speed!!!, i would have one for my next car - but i own a scoob - so i wont have another car!

hope you enjoy your new purchase, i had my driving lessons in a diesel and that was a very nice drive (round the block lots of times!!)

Seriously though you will not find a more reliable car!!!

Regards

Cool

Cambelt,

I also sold my scoob recently. My wife is disabled and the ride was just too harsh for her. I miss it a lot, especially on the scoob meets.

I had a test drive in a 306 GTI-6 but not the Rallye version. I thought it was a great car which I may have purchased but the wife didn't like that either.

Finished up with a V6 Mondeo, loads of comfort and refinement but the handling is not as sharpe as the Scoob or 306.

Hope you enjoy it and don't miss the scoob too much

Wouldn't knock one of those at all. Now, the XSI would be truly knocked. Mostly because Longun owns one

There's a few sites devoted to Pugs, too, and the following is nearly as evangelistic - but that doesn't mean that you're not welcome here

Sounds like a sensible plan to reduce costs to me. Enjoy it!

Had one for 2.5 years before the Scoobs. For what it is, great car, enjoyed it. It can't be compared to a Scoob because it's a different product.

Now, as for the 206 GTI's we bought in between....well, they really WERE a sack of poo....

For the amount of money they are worth, I think they're great, one of the best choices. With a few mods they fly. I look up to them here in Greece, cause they go well and for the money worth every cent. If I couldn't have the Scoob I'd buy one too. In fact I'm thinking of selling my wifes KIA and buying one of these for her.

Great car
I have a white XSi and I was planning to sell it when the Impreza arrives.
But after a great drive last week I have decided I can't bear to part with it.

Don't fancy selling the Elise either, and the wife won't let me sell the MGB.

Sigh, have to convert the living room into another garage.

Great cars, fantastic handling, but they will probably depreciate quite a bit over the next year or so as a new model is available and it is only a matter of time before a hot model is available. So expect it to be cheap (6 months after launch these were at supermarkets for £12k) and have fun on the twisty bits...

Hi,

Is it a gti-6 or a rallye? I thought that the rallye's were only ever S or T plates, but may be wrong.

I have a red T plate rallye, and although it's no scooby, it is still a very entertaining car.

had a white 306 xsi, which was a bundle of fun and entertaining enough ... driven Chris J's rallye which was a hoot also but needed to be wound up a little before really shifting .....

got a scoob now.

I had one (it being picked up this week - 2 months on - so god knows how bad it must have been) as company car.

BE CAREFULL OF LIFT OFF OVERSTEAR!!!

I skidded on diesal, lifted off and put it in a hedge. Lucky to be alive!!

Great car. Actually prefer the rawness of them to my scooby - steering weight is awesome! Great grip. Go Kart like handling. Just needs more power.

Try LADS of Morcambe - they are awesome!! Do loads of Citroen / Pug kit.

ah yes, the lift off oversteer. It almost caught me out a couple of times, but nothing too dramatic thank god. Having said that I might have got too used to the corsa with its 'do what you want but I'm not turning' handling.

Does LAD have a website?

even got the occasional bit of lift-off oversteer going through short-sharp roundabouts in the lil ole xsi ... mind you that was only if you were getting over excited.

the 306 is a superb motor.

i had the choice of that and a civic 5dr vti-s and went for the civic in the end, but had lot of test drives in the pug.

agree with the warning about lift off oversteer. mind you the honda was as bad, had some very scary moments in that !!

i was actually quite sad, when i had to part-x my 306 for the scoob coz i was just getting to know it's limits.

still can't complain - although scoob power + 306 handling = entertainment perfection.

have to agree with duddle 306s rock.

Top cars!! Great handling and engine, just a shame all 306's look very similar (and no badges on most of them).

Had a GTI-6 on order twice and couldn't sell my Rover to pay off the loan (no real surprise there!). Big shame, though I do have a scooby now

Seems everyone thinks the GTi-6 is a top car.

I'm not going to knock it either coz I had one for 2.5 years and loved it. Handle great and was very sad to see it go but then I got the Scoob

They go really well, nice 6 speed box, and if you put the suspension down 35 mm on springs and get the torsions adjusted they go even better!!!!!!

Plus it got the Hot Hatch of the Year award and also on several occasions was voted the best GTi you can buy.

You might want to check these sites out:

Fantastic response !! I think it is really refreshing for car lovers to actually appreciate cars and not slag them off !!

The Pug really is popular and after tonights drive home across country I can't agree more,it really was great fun 6th gear in the red is rather entertaining

of course I still think about the scoob and who knows maybe one day ........

It would be great to keep the topic going and please do, although I appreciate other topics take over quickly.

Thanks to all that have responded, Chris J it is a Rallye log book proves it, they ended in '99.
BT52b I am really jealous !!
JZA thanks for the advice.

I'm curious, what tyres are on the Rallye?

I have recently put Proxes on my 306 and the grip level, comfort and lack of noise is amazing even if they do feel a bit odd.

Don't be jealous, the MG has just had an entire new brake system put in, the car is a money pit, the Elise? Well it is great fun, but the 306 is actually my favourite of the lot, and I'll be surprised if the Impreza changes that.
Rallye must be great.

Cambelt, you are right, it is nice to know that other people appreciate other cars, especially ones which I own .

Just thought I would check. Does yours say gti-6 rallye, or just rallye in the log book? I thought they finished in 99, must have got my years and lettering mixed up.

I am slightly scared that you have had it in the red in sixth though.

I've only had mine for a month so I am still getting used to it, but it is a very nice car. Especially for a 21 year old.

I believe the car originally came with Pirelli P6000s. I was going to invest in toyos but my dealer kindly replaced the tyres with new p6000s before I picked it up
