Air Con install
#1
First time post
I have just collected my first scooby, a '96. It doesn't have air con, and wondered if it is possible to get a unit fitted?
I am close to Southampton and not sure of the local garages that could look after my new baby.
Any ideas?

It is possible to get all the parts from a breaker, I have just got a kit from HDC Subaru (01422 846868) for my MY90 Legacy. Cost £200 + £25 P&P. Cost seems to be about £80 - £100 for regassing. Old Subarus used a refrigerant (R12) that is now banned but can be replaced by R409A. The system should be pressure tested with Nitrogen and then filled with gas & specified oil if OK.
Got mine installed but not up & running yet as still waiting for an accessory loom and 2nd rad fan and relays if applicable... awaiting feedback from Howard at HDC
Cheers
Mick

I know it's possible to retro fit aircon, and that the main dealers charge a fortune to do it. (Think it's about £1000 )
You can get the bits to do it yourself very much cheaper - I may do mine sometime in the new year. There are people here who know much more than I, so I would suggest the "General technical" forum as a good start.
As for dealers and garages, I'm not sure. I have only dealt with Sparshatts (Botley) once, and that was for something very minor. They were helpful and solved my problem.
Probably see you at one of the South meets sometime - I'm not too far from Southampton
