What is it about Scoobies that turns other drivers into phsycos ?
Driving along at 80 ish outside lane dual carriageway why do people who seem quite happy driving at 70 have to suddenly speed up and tailgate me ? Not just spotty Saxo drivers either
Last week I got followed home by a pipe smoking Disabled Badge holding Rover 45 driver who was so annoyed that I chose the right lane and got past him in traffic that he drove like an idiot undertook me on a 3 lane section and then stamped on the brakes so hard my ABS saw some action.
I got back in front and then wound him by slowing down every time he tried to tail me. Can u beleive he followed me home but chickened out when I got out of the car.

I had white van man nearly waste himself and a few others yesterday, I'd overtaken him and he felt compelled to take me back in a most unsafe manner... idiot.

As my cars relatively new to people, i reckon the average Joe Bloggs didnt know that my car was a Scooby (just a toyota corrola!!!) when i creaped up behind them.
Recent event have led me to believe this is changing!!
I overtook a guy in a T-5 in the countryside on the way to work. Safe manouver - no cutting up etc. We get to a village that has a 20 limit next to a primary school - kids going in - mums and Renault Scenics everywhere.
I slowed to 20 - T-5 man catches up.
Just after a pedestrain crossing (lollipop lady stops us both) - the guy screams past me - forcing oncoming traffic to slam on breaks!! Should have seen the faces of the mums and infants!!!
Couldnt believe it!! What a d1ckhead!!!
(i overtook him later on the twisties tho!!!!)
I also find that if you catch up to a "Mr Mondeo Repman" in the open country, they then decide to move up from 60 to 95 and throw the car around - mainly in the middle of the road - to keep in front. Scares me to death they are going to lose it!!

People like that are pathetic, they just cant handle the fact that someone dared to overtake them, and allow their "I was bullied at school" dementia get the better of them.
I often have that thing where they suddenly start pushing their car as hard as possible as soon as they realise you are daring to overtake them, a sudden jump in speed from the 40 in a 60 they were doing, to an all out drag race, to ensure you are placed in a dangerous predicament, or appear to toher road users to be doing a dangerous manouver.
As sad as they are, there is very little you can do about their attitude.
I get very aggressive with people like that, to the point of getting into a position where ramming is a real possibility, but I realise this is the wrong approach, and am concentrating hard to become a less aggressive driver, though I do get fed up with constantly having to overcompensate to make up for other peoples patheticness.
Perhaps the "you're stupid" technique may help, look at them, and shake your head in a "you poor poor person" manner. This may make them realise how pathetic they really are, and perhaps diffuse the situation.

I was having a bit of fun in the P1 in the Lakes on the road out to Ullswater - Evo VI cruising behind - didn't know the guy but we were cruising at average speed through the twisty bits. Came up behind a Mondeo estate, wife and two kids in the back. The guy was driving out of his skin to stay ahead and the car was quite obviously nowhere near capable of what he was asking of it. I was convinced he was going to come off the road so I pulled over and let him go before he killed someone. Evo pulled in behind me, bloke gets out and says "That guy in the Mondeo was scaring me..."

Can't understand why they like to keep us behind. We want to go slightly faster and they obviously want to go a bit slower and yet will not let you overtake, or if you do, they come after you. Why can't they let us overtake, nice and simple, let us drive at the speed we want and they can continue on as they were.
In Australia it was bad. Here in Greece the majority about 95% of drivers do move over for you. It's nowhere near as bad as it was in OZ. It's one of the very few rules drivers obey here, surprisingly.
Another one I hate is your behind a car going very slow around bends and your right up it, letting them know you want to overtake, however you can't cause it's a blind bend. Once you get to a straight, they speed up making you think that their speed is fine now, so it's OK no need to overtake, then slowing down at the next set of bends again and making it frustrating for you. At the next straight again they speed up. Can't they let you overtake so you can cruise how you want and they can cruise how they want. Is it Maths? Is it that hard? If I want to go slow I always move over allowing the faster driving cars to go, as I don't like to be a bother to them.
That's one of the main reasons I bought the Scoob. TO BE ABLE TO OVERTAKE THESE IDIOTS EASILY.

This sort of behaviour (on country roads) seems to be a function of the drivers normal habitat - obvious locals in Scotland seem to either go so fast I can't keep up (even when they have 1.2 Nova's 
), or kindly let me past at first sensible opportunity. However, get on the A65 accross Yorkshire on a sunny weekend, the road is full of people who are either scared to take a corner at more than 40mph, or ***** who believe that wahtever manouvre they fancy is fine, because it's *obvious* that no-one will be coming the other way around that blind bend...

Steve, you have obviously come across the minority of drivers in Scotland if they let you overtake easily, I take your point about the 1.2 Novas, I used to manage better times point to point in a diesel sierra than I do in the scooby, 
you really can't slow down in them because it takes about 10 minutes to get back up to a reasonable speed, results in you going around corners quickly

I had a situation once on a clear rural A road.
I approach some old giffer in a Volvo estate. I was moving a along at a fair old pace, and he was crawling along at about 35. When I caught up with him on a long flat straight no other cars about - broad daylight, i moved out in plenty of time doing about 80-odd. I got to within 40ft of the boy, and he only f*&$in well pulls in front of me!
Confronted with the choice of either Volvo Boot or Hedge, I chose hedge.
Goodbye Alfa 155 twin spark.
The Giffer in question did stop - to have a go at me for driving like a hooligan!?! he said he'd pulled in front to slow me down!

You also find this happens on the track too. At my one and only trip to Silverstone (RSOC), I caught a TVR (donno which one, chimera I think) He was going steady until I arrived and although I kept my distance, he tried harder and harder to pull away, getting more ragged through the corners and the eventually the inevitable result of him spinning off.

I usually let them past if they insist on driving in a manner I consider to be dangerous. When I pull up behind them at the traffic lights, and they look in their rear view mirror, I can never seem to resist a VERY animated yawn

Grinning and head shaking is always good. Also overtaking while pretending to play with the sterio. (this also works when being taken by a Lambo - yeah i'm not trying!)
I quite letting people take you as, they are absolutely giving it loads, then pull straight out and take them back. The shock factor makes a scoob so worth while!

And you guys don't drive in Portugal...
You can't imagine what it's like to be behind a clio or fiesta or whatever, but the guy is about 2 meters from the next clio, who is 2m behind the next fiesta, all driving behind this tosses goind 20 miles below the speed limit. This happens constantly, and spoils a lot of the fun one could have behing the wheel of a scooby. I can very seldom "guive it some", because there's always someone going way too slow, and everybody else is following way too close to him.
I also get the feeling most people guive drive over their (or their car's) limits to stop you overtaking or try to keep up with you. And here the common knowledge states that you must drive close to the person in front of you, so that you don't get cut off be people overtaking, which makes it impossible to overtake when there's more than 5 cars together.
People following me worries me a little, because I've had the experience of someone going off inside a tunnel turn because he was trying to follow. He was pretty far behind, but lost it and hit the wall, leaving a spark show on my rearview mirror. I think that most of them are just trying to "play", but don't know where their limits are... the ones stopping me from overtaking are just being rude and aggressive. Since I'm not an agressive driver, I just keep patient and hope I get a better chance, of stop for a drink at the nearest cafe...
Driver education should be the rule, but it's basically the oposite that is happening.
And the Portuguese have an inferiority complex, wich makes them over-react to anybody overtaking them... It's pathetic !

I hope the police were called out to arrest this crazed loon..
About two days ago on the way to work I came up to the back of a Saab 95 who was following a Ford Escort doing about 50 in a 60. A couple of bends later the road opened up into a half mile straight with a crest at the end. Mr Saab overtakes the ford at a not very great speed and I follow with plenty of power to spare. Since Mr Saab does not seem in any great rush I decide that it's best to get past him as well when were past the Ford. But, what happens? He stays on the right hand (on coming) side of the road!! So I'm right behind the Saab and he <I>slooowwwlllyyy</I> starts to move over still doing about 55-60.
The blind crest is approaching and I'm thinking "this is getting into a bad situation". Eventually he pulls over enough for me to get by (a gap of about two inches at the side) so I floor it and pass him with a blast of the horn. He has the cheek to flash his lights so gets a salute in return.
Either he was not looking in his mirrors or playing the "thout shall not pass" game (my opinion) and acting like a prat. He could also have just not realised that I could get past him as well. Either way, sitting in the oncoming lane like that was a stupid thing to do.
Looking back the safest option would have been for me to pull in behind him, but I'm afraid I lapsed into the "must get by" attitude. Probably not the right thing really, but there was still room for my to get back in if another car came towards us.

People who don't leave an overtaking gap are annoying, but you can teach them a good lesson by just waiting patiently until you get to a straight then overtake all of them at once. Then pull back in and slam on the brakes so the lead car has to do an emergency stop, thus causing the queue of tailgaters to suffer a multiple pile up. Now, laugh heartily at their misfortune, then carry on your merry way with a smug satisfaction at having taught a few more people the dangers of driving too close to the car in front

A couple of day's ago I was comming up to a junction where I wanted to make a right hand turn from a main road. At that time, there was a small van just pulling up to the give way of the road I was going to turn in to.
I indicated, slowed down and started my manouver.
While I was turning into the street, I heard the small van toot his horn. I ignored and then he tooted again. So, I looked at the driver in the small van to see him calling me a w!**er.
I lifted my head as if to say what?, and he pointed at me and made the hand jesture again.
So, instead of driving on, I did a U-turn behind him and followed him for about 10 seconds until he slowed down to a stop and pulled up on the kirb.
Well, there was no way I was going to get out of my car, so I pulled up next to him, laughed at him and his passanger, and then drove away.
The driver and his passanger, looked like car thief's, or definatelly into something.
They were also built like the side of my house.
So in future I will have to learn to calm myself and just ignore these pr!cks

Don't ask me why... but I've experienced more agro since I bought the new MY01 WRX (UK model) in the last four months, than in the previous four years in the other two Scoobs (both of then MUCH more aggressive looking cars than the bug eyed monster!). I don't know if this is the problem, that people think it's just another silver Vectra etc. or that they've read the motor mags and want to see if it's that much slower etc (which it aint... well maybe a bit!). I'm lucky enough to live up in Scotland and drive a fair few miles and pick my routes / times, as far as possible, to give me the best drive.
Example. Driving from Moffat to Dumfries. Some loon in a big Merc (wife and kids in), follows me for a while and after several chances to pass me (I couldn't give a toss) tries to pass me, another car and a bloody great lorry coming into a blind bend! and that's one of less scary stories of recently.
O'hum. Maybe I should stick a big spoiler on with flashing lights that say **** OFF.

Well, they ALWAYS move over for me!!
At my age you find the technique that works - it is quite simply - do NOT tailgate!!! that really gets peoples backs up hence the aggression shown to you kiddies.
On the road if the car in front sees that I am not being pushy then its all fine when I choose a SAFE place to overtake, I then come up fast from a way behind and complete the manouvre - simple as that.
EVERYONE gets dicked off if a kiddy comes up close behind in a flash motor - so, next time leave a space, overtake safely and see the difference!

I've had my scooby for just under a year now and I am constantly amazed by the reaction of other drivers when they see me i.e. tailgating at 70mph, undertaking and cutting me up. The worst offenders IMHO seem to be white van man and execs in BMWs and Mercs. I used to drive a modified golf gti and my dads calibra yet people never gave me a second look. It's taken some getting used to, but now I just let them get on with it and play their own stupid games.

i have found that if you wind people up ie drive too close (or what they percieve as being close) then they will get pissed.simple, you must have done something?????????

also you have to remember others could be going flat out and think that no one could go faster so why let em by
