UK300 killer - enter the WRX Rally-Extreme - cheaper too!
#1
was just over at Wilsons of chadwell heath buying a new roof rack for the wrx (another story) and saw some printed out photos of a striped down MY01 WRX being prepared on the desk. Wilson's didn't like the uk300 and wanted to make their own attempt at a MU01 super car.
it turns out that they are getting a standard 4dr WRX MY01 and have an entire kit for it to make it look like the WRC car. They are also upping the power using prodrive and nonprodrive bits and pieces. the intention is to make it cheaper than the UK300 by quite a margin. It's going to be called "Rally Extreme" or something. Due to come out at the end of June.
+ roof air inlet thingy - like the Type-RA
+ new light clusters colour coded to whatever colour
+ white side indicator bits like the uk300
+ proper low skirting all the way around
+ lowered suspension
+ possibly 18" wheels - he pointed at some P1 wheels??? with Pzero tyres...
+ WRC car spoiler - i.e. one that doesn't look like luke skywalker made it.
+ lowered suspension
+ lots of tuning including lots of things I don't fully understand, but he mentioned ECU, all the pipes and back box
+ it has little side air intakes on the front bumper a la wrc car
+ a new front grill to make the new lights look quite good. it turns out that they're not allowed to use or copy the lights from the uk300, so they just made batter ones (imho) with a little air intake on it.
+ it actually looked rather nice even though the whole thing wasn't painted yet and still "in development"
+ not sure about the inside, you'll have to ask.
but one important thing is that he invited me back to have the stuff done to my WRX wagon.
I guess you had better call wilsons of chadwell heath if you want more information - I was just buying a roof rack (mountain bike world cup event next weekend, and I own a bike company).
he also said he is VERY interested in buying pre-MY01 cars because they sell like hot cookies - well, he is in essex I suppose.
let me know if you find out more - official press launch is due end of June, but he said he'd have a go at emailling the pictures.

Sounds like they are extending their range of accesories. Most of these items are already available from Subaru/Prodrive so a dealer special edition is probably going to be able to offer a good saving as there is usually a good profit margin in main dealer accessories, so bundling £4k worth (or whatever) and charging only £2.5k would be possible and might help the dealer flog more accessories.
Anyway I hope they do do a good big range of accessories/upgrades that don't invalidate the warranty, should make buying an EU import an even better option!
The car should be cheaper anyway as it doesn't appear to have alcantara!

actually, I forgot that. I think it does. I'll see if I can get the photos.
I never asked whether it would still be within warranty - I assume so since it is an approved subaru dealer...

have just seen the pictures on the above link. Even though it looks much nicer than the standard design, it looks to me that most of the kit shown is straight off of the old shape! And doesnt that rather defeat the whole object of designing a totally new car? The front lights, what can i say, even the "improved" versions look pig ugly!
