If you got 340 BHP out of a "classic" Scooby at PE, what sort of 0-100/ 1/4 time does that equate to, and would it stay with a new M3 or a 911 (non-Turbo)? Just curious, not planning any Fast and Furious stuff

John,
Maybe you should invest in the Pocket Dragstrip - can't remember who does it, but that'd give you the info you need - its meant to be fairly accurate! Under £150 and can output results to a PC.

My P1 (when I had it) which was lightly modded - i.e. decat exhaust & a couple of other little bits was running almost 300 bhp on the nose I got the following:
Bearing in mind I'm a drag strip virgin before these runs.. (although I'm told they are bloody good) a 12.91 @ 111mph and a 13.07 (can't remember the speed). Now in my book that would blow away a porsche and probably an m3 at there was a 380 bhp saff cossie doing late 13's and tvr's struggling to get under 14's (cerbera's & chimeras (sp))...
Should be very quick - although you almost have to put any mechanical sympathy to the back of your mind when you dial in 5.5K and drop the clutch! - does look good on video though when you get a four wheel drive wheelspin/powerslide on launch..

I'll get Cosie Convert to use his AP22 I think... and pray for the clutch, gearbox and injectors
Not 340 BHP yet, but I have a few plans... I reckon about 300 at PE at present since I have a few more things done since my last 290 BHP and lbft and 202 at the wheels.

Banzai tested some fettled scoobys last year and one making around that power did 0-100 in around 9.5secs and the quarter in(I think)high 11secs.I thought that they were either excellent times or the scooby was more like 400bhp.
I'd say 340bhp would be 1/4mile in mid-high 12secs and 0-100 in around 11-12sec with 0-60 in very low 4secs.
It depends how you get the power. If you just increase fuelling and boost to get 340 bhp it won't be as quick as someone who has had a lightened and balanced engine/flywheel/pulleys,hybrid turbo for quicker spoolup, flowed head, modified induction for smoother airflow etc and making 340bhp(probably on less boost).

Was at Santa pod today and saw some crazy things like a 650 BHP Supra and that was only doing 1/4 mile in 13.6 secs, but i think he had the problem of no traction!!!! I run 313 bhp in my sti Type r at the moment, did not take it on the strip but may well do on the 4th Aug, as i am also interested to find out what sort of times it would do.
Different animal altogether but was also quite impressed with a drag bike that did the 1/4 mile in 6 secs and reached 204 mph. Bit quicker than a scooby me thinks!!!!

It will be MY00, VF hybrid turbo, uprated TMIC, manifold/exhaust, fuel pump/reg, remap, standard induction. 340 BHP would be my absolute highest expectation out of it even at PE but might be optimistic on the uprated TMIC, might be more like 320 BHP, although I would hope that the VF hybrid should add more than 20 BHP onto the TD04 hybrid! 11-12s to 100 is what I was guessing.

'car test' on
http://www.mustangworks.com/software/
gives some fairly good results. the drag race bit is surprisingly addictive!
You will of course find that reducing the weight of the car makes most difference.

John,
a 340 scoob will have round about the same power to weight ratio as new 911 Turbo with 0-100 in 9.5 sec - except the Scoob is shaped like a shed! Expect something like 10-10.5sec.
It will certainly stay with a 996 911 (non-turbo) and will give a turbo a potential scare.
Standing 1/4 - well it depends on how good you are - sub-13 should be relatvely easy - low 12s the target.

sunday 4th august
top ten shootout- this is not a turn up and pay rwyb event, spectators can do so, but all entrants will be finalised and paid up this week.
http://www.trackdayplus.com
we are running 0-500m timed drag runs (just over 1/4 mile) ( we were originally going to run 1/2 mile, but timing gear practicalities mean we are running 0-500m head to head.
this is an officially recognised distance BTW, and should also give the BIG power cars a chance to get into their stride.
we are also running times circuit laps, and a 1.2mile top speed run , so everyone will get a chance to show off their cars all round skills.
there will be trophies for fastest drag runs , top speed, circuit etc, and also sponsored trophies and prizes for fastest scooby (cct lap), worth £250, from RC developments.
event starts 10am for spectators, competitors need to be on site 7.30am to9am, briefing at 9.30am.
places left for scoobs, list is as follows as of today
MARK AIGIN SUBARU IMPREZA STI
MICHAEL WHITE SUBARU LEGACY RS
JAMES HOLT SUBARU IMPREZA
SIMON BURTON SUBARU IMPREZA P1
CHRIS KING SUBARU IMPREZA STI RA
JOHN FELSTEAD SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI
TIM WHITESIDE SUBARU IMPREZA 2000

He probably had the problem of "not 650bhp". At my first ever visit to Santa Pod I managed a relatively crap 13.7 in my standard M3.
I suspect the Supra was another example of ridiculously inflated Japanese tuning power claims (or over-inflated and wrong rolling road flywheel estimates)
Ian.

To hang with a new M3 or 911 in a straight line, a Scooby would probably need around 265bhp at the wheels.
What is produced at the flywheel is completely irrelevant ... 340bhp may be enough but you'll never know unless you whip the engine out and stick it on an engine dyno.
Ian.

Thanks for the answer, I WAS down for the 4th August back in the early days, but after it moved and moved again it became too far for me to go.
For those that are going, have a jolly good time...and yes I am well jealous!!!
290bhp in a lightweight UK, (no electric folding mirrors), would have been quite good.

Some M3's etc go better than others, in fact some are pretty damn slow...same with subs, some go a lot better than others stdandar.
13.7 for a std M3 is pretty good ( E36?? )
It depends on how much mechanical sympathy you have. If you dont care if something breaks, you will undoubtedly go faster. Gearing will also play a huge part in times, regardlesss of power.
Hopefully we will all have a good day on the 4th, with everyone driving home again, car still in one piece.....( well, everyone being me.. )

I also use Car Test, it gives the following figures:
My MY93 with mods and an alleged 296bhp:
0-60 4.8
0-100 11.1
1/4 mile 13secs @ 108mph
The previous owner reckoned he'd had the car tested 0-60 at some magazine bash and it was run at 4.8, but otherwise I haven't tested the claim.
For comparison, according to car test, an STi Type UK would post the following figures:
0-60 5.7
0-100 15.1
1/4 mile 14.1secs @ 97mph
A 340hp Classic would post:
0-60 3.7
0-100 10.0
1/4 mile 12.5 secs @ 112
FWIW

Added the 2002 M3 figures to Car Test, but had to use the gear ratios from the 1997 M3 as I can't find the ratios used in the current model.
0-60 5.3 (BMW claim 5.2, so not bad)
0-100 12.4
1/4 mile 13.6
So, purely theoretically, a 340hp Scoob should walk all over the M3.
REV heads off to find 911 figures...
