Friday lunchtime, my favourite part of the working week, take the *takings* to the bank and p off home

Come out of the bank in central Southampton to see 3 young men hanging around the front of my car. See me coming and scarper and from their positions I think the little ******* have let down my osf tyre but looks ok.

Driving home totally surreal thing happens

Clunk, bang and osf wheel is rolling off down the road !!
Narrowly misses two old dears,
Narrowly misses a parked Boxster,
Demolishes glass door of a hair salon.

I felt like I was in an episode of Roadrunner

Little *******s had loosened the wheel nuts, couldn't have been to steal the wheel coz the car wasn't jacked up.

So where wing impacted on top of the tyre arch is deformed and will probably need replacing. Just got car back from having the whole ns replaced, this is a hell of a way of getting rid of stonechips.

Still not sure whether to laugh or cry. Suppose I'll have to laugh as no 3rd parties were hurt.

DJ,

Sorry to hear.

That is just s##t behaviour. Let's see if Mr Blair and his merry men can sort this out at the 2nd attempt!!

As the saying goes in Pulp Fiction, "F##k with a man's automobile, no trial, no jury, straight to execution" Get's my vote.

Changed my mind. At execution the little peasant's pain would be over. They should SUFFER.

This really takes the mick.

Little gits. With ronnie on this, get police involved.

Did you have locking wheelnuts? just wondering cos if so then one assumes it's sheard the nut/bolt/whatever, which is not good.

Hope it all gets sorted, and to be honest, I hope you see the scumbags and they get what's coming to them, if you know what I mean!

You are correct.
Right now I feel like doing some serious harm to somebody.

Ron

Sorry can't agree with that position.
No one was hurt THIS TIME. That could have occured in the centre lane of a busy motorway.

Don't mean to criticise. How are you going to feel if find someone is injured, maybe seriously, when they're next out for kicks?

This is not a spur of the moment thing they were equipped for it. Police won't catch em but at least they'll be aware, if they do a SnS and find a wheelbrace maybe 2=2 will = 4.

Unlucky DJ, glad no-one was hurt, as banshi said I'd report it anyway, nothing will happen, but at least your conscience will be clear.

BTW the way you told it did create a road runner sketch in my mind

I agree with what's been said. Report it to the police along with any descriptions you have. Write it down now before you forget.

Having an incident number etc will help the insurance claim along too.

Just glad it was'nt on a motorway and your ok.

Agree with Banshi. Don't let them get away with it!! If they think they have got off this time they may try it on someone else. That may turn out a whole lot worse..

If it had happened to me I'd have wanted blood....

As you said, it my stick in their memories for future reference.

At arms length from the issue it's easy to be objective.

If it happened to me I would be trawling the streets with half a dozen mates and a length of 4x2. Not suggesting that would be appropriate or successful, just the only way I could cope with it.

Are you sure it was random, i.e. no one with a grudge?

Doc,

Not much I can add to what others have already said - there are a lot of lowlifes out there unfortunately. Glad no-one was hurt - it could have been very nasty.

I wouldn't rule out theft as a motive just because the car wasn't jacked up. About 10 years ago some **** removed a wheel from my 205Gti without jacking it - just undid the nuts and bounced the car enough for it to fall off. Left a big dent in the C pillar where he'd shoved his fat ar$e.

Doc
Sorry to hear this
I was down at TN today talking with Chizzer and another Impreza owner, sorry, terrible with names.
He had an interseting angle on this, he said that he had heard of this being done before, the idea is that the loose wheel comes off and the car stops (nothing new there) because you cannot jack the car due to the ground clearance - off you head of to find a garage, trolley jack, the scum having followed you jack it up, put the wheel back on and leave with your pride and joy after sorting the alarm/imob out.

I agree with others here, report it to the Police.

What a dangerous and c**tish thing to do perhaps 5 years hard labour would help deter!

Thanks for all the comments guys

The real bummer in this is that although I am securely wrapped up in metal, the wheel disappeared off down the road. We all saw at Adelaide what damage a wheel can do if it's travelling fast enough.

The little tw@ts obviously have no regard for others safety. Probably the same people who put stuff on railway tracks.

Thumbs down

DocJock,
I presume you have checked the remaining wheels to ensure they have not been tampered with.
Really quite incredibly stupid actions, that could so easily have resulted in the loss of life.

I have been victim over the last 14 months of similar but not quite so severe tampering.

In my case I know it is a grudge thing, and that someone is knowingly putting me, my wife and childrens lives at risk is very upsetting.

I agree strongly about the comments regarding involving the Police. I did.

My wife was concerned that if the to$$er did something more dramatic, much like happened to yourself, and nobody was aware of the previous incidents, the entire family could be killed in what appears to be a freak accident.
And the Police would not be looking for any culprits.

I now have had a perimeter alarm fitted which I can turn off if required, that warns people to move away from the car.
If they don't back off it trips to full alarm mode.

It is adjustable so you can set it to trip when they are 4Ft or more away from the car.
It makes people jump, but they don't ignore it.
Having a speaking voice also attracts the attention of passers by, who turn to see what is going on.

Obviously not very practical if you are parked in a busy street, but in certain situations it has its uses.

Cheers MTR
