Urgent - Please Help Fast

My mate has just phoned me from the Nurburgring (20.00hrs on the 08.07.02). He didn't notice the Pulsar GTiR overheating and blew the top of the radiator clean off.
He's bought an Almera radiator which is 2/3 the capacity of the Pulsar item but it keeps overheating as the result of air in the system. From his descriptions and the fact that he is filling the coolant properly, I think the cylinder head gasket has gone and is blowing air into the coolant system and overheating as a result.
Can anyone think of a way to by-pass this if it is the case so he can drive the car home?
Is this likely to be the problem anyway?
He says he can't take the thermostat out because its integral to system i.e. not in-line.
Any help would be much appreciated as I will phone him with the comments?
