Was it just me but i thought the stalls set up by the different Subaru specialists were not very good, the displays were poor and more importantly they were charging exactly the same prices they do Monday to Friday in the stores.Any other (clubs)track days i've been too have had more stands and are offering good incentives for you to buy something, i think the word is DISCOUNT,i didnt see anybody buy anything major at all, several of us tried gentle negotiations with several suppliers but got the same old prices quoted they charge normally.
I think they need to review the pricing issue at these days as what better opportunity to shift some stock to what seemed like a major portion of UK Subaru owners, and lots with CASH to spend.

Not just you, I wasn't particulalry impressed with them either, not many stalls and not much on them.

Only thing I bought all day was a white magnum ice cream coz the sun was getting a bit on the warm side!!

Agree with Zippy.I've been after STi pedals for my MY01 for some time now and saw them on the Scoobymania stall. They were £94 which is exactly the same price they sell em for on their website. (Perhaps if they were say £10-£15 cheaper I woulda snapped them up there and then!!!) Another stall had a front lip spoiler for an MY01 and he wanted £255 Don't think they're that expensive direct from subaru!!!!!!
There was one good thing though - I didn't spend any major money!

But are we talking decent levels of discount,we were after brake pads for the MY01 and we were told nobody had them and they were the same price as normal if we ordered them,we found that a front spoiler for and MY00 was £120 and the one for the MY01 was £255 when we asked was there more plastic in the MY01 version he didnt see the funny side of it and just walked away.
No disrepect but bulbs being slightly cheaper isnt my point,i'm talking cosmetic and performance parts.

I cannt comment on the day, as I never went. But agree with what is being said.

The companys that are our major suppliers of after market parts, have not yet to my knowledge advertised any discount promotions.

They have a captive audience, for the likes of the import owners who can only really go to them for parts.

Maybe I am wrong in this, but for these companies that earn there bread and butter from us, maybe just once or twice a year they could look at doing special deals on a line of product. They are the ones that know what is and is not selling. and they could promote the products that either are not selling that well, or are coming to the end of line.

Just my two pence worth.

I for one was offer £35 of freebies for those that bought a starter kit or £50 off a complete kit. 7 people took advantage of the offers on the day.

Sorry if I was hard to find but I was in the trade area till 130pm before spending the rest of day till 1830 by one of the garages where my sevices were in demand doing scratch removal and engine bays preps.

Its always a hard one this. For a trader, these days aren't easy and Scoobysport, like most, regarded the day as primarily a PR exercise and the oppurtunity to meet new customers.

My guys did discount many things and were open to some good old fashioned haggling, where possible. And business was brisk, far exceeding what they expected.

I am sure we will see many more traders at next years event and we, as company, will make a point of bringing along even more products.

But please don't knock the traders. Many were on site setting up at 6.30am having brought stuff up in several vehicles and having display cars there too, coming from all over the country. Its major logistics and requires a lot of commitment by the various companies and their staff, most of whom would far rather be on track or spending the day enjoying themselves with everyone else.

I have been to many such events where that trade stalls are selling old stock, that they have had kicking around for months, at discounted prices, because no one wants the stuff.

Personally I think its far better to have companies showing their best products and offering good advice, with the chance of a haggle when confronted by a wad of money.

Cool

Muppet here missed all of the stalls

Didn't manage to catch up with you Pete, saw Mike from Scoobymania right at the end.
Because we arrived just before the afternoon session, I would have missed out on several passenger laps if I had been wondering around

You have made some valid points there Pete. I for one will always try to get a discounted price regardless of whether the product is full or already a discounted item

I did try haggling for a downpipe for my MY01 and was told £230 + Vat by Scoobysport,TSL wouldnt move on the price of his Wings west front spoiler or his rear lights, while the same can be said for Scoobymania with their STI pedals.
Pete i can see your point about carrying old stock around but the point was even old stock was being offered at standard pricing, no effort was being made to entice people to part with their folding.
I can see there being a price to pay for my MY01 parts but not at full RRP at a show,i know you have said NEXT year may well be different but people seemed to have missed an excellent marketing oppurtunity for their current and future business.

Realistically, why do traders have to discount at these shows?

If they want to run a promotion then that's fine but it's not something that should be expected.

At least you get the chance to actually see the stuff for a change and compare.

As to not being will laid out - what do people expect? Harrods?

Thumbs down

As usual Pete, your'e damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Un-constructive comments usually come from people employed in business rather than being in business.

The fact that IT COSTS money to get to the venue + wages (Sunday pay) yet the goods are brought to the prospective customer at the usual price for me is more than acceptable.

Methinks I've had enough of this $hite now anyway.

Me thinks you should stick to trying not to upset people on a track before you add any constructive comments (NOT), and stop a*se kissing Pete, he added some good points which i have responded too and as a for being in business and employed by business stop talking out of your a*sre, comments like yours are what annoy people on this board with your high and mighty attitude,if you dont like a thread dont respond to it.

So, someone got a discount on bulbs- even though it was a discount it's not good enough for you because it's not WHAT YOU WANTED.

What a hard life.

So, as an example - prices at Scoobymania/scoobysport whover. They're normally competitive and rarely RRP anyway.

So they're already discounted.

But you want more discount. And for them to pay wages and for the stall they have.

What the whole point of this post is, you went to the show expecting a bargain, didn't find what you were looking for, so you b1tch about it.

And you criticise Mellow for pointless posts that annoy people

How can you say they are already competetive and already discounted on RRP ,i dont see how you can say that as the prices at Donington were exactly the same as on the companies involved web pages.
The point of the thread was if you have 450+ Subaru owners in one location who due to the type of car are generally open to lavishing cash on them, then why not offer incentives for them to do just that.

Because the price is the same as on their website, does not make it RRP.

I'll explain.

An HKS Hiper has a retail price of £600. On Company X website it is £540 - hence discounted 10%.

At the show it is £540 - hence it is still discounted.

I'll explain ,it's still the same as the advertised X company price that you or i will get quoted any given day of the week.
No matter what business you are in if you run an organised day were you expect people to come along there is no better way to promote your company or product than to offer a 1 day only discount scheme.
And i wasnt bitching that they werent giving discount on what I wanted as there were at least 4 of us with various types of requirements and none of us thought it was anything special.
