Used to be indecisive now not so sure....P1 or STI? UK or Import?
#1
I just cant decide.....
I was looking at getting an STI V, VI but I could also be persuaded to pay the extra and get a P1. I have a few questions and wondered if any in the know could help?
1. Fuel - There seems to be a lot of hassle with STI fuel having to use certain octanes with octane booster. Seems like a lot of hastle, can an STI V run of SU alone and what does a P1 run on? Does a P1 suffer from same STI problems?
2. Insurance - Would a P1 insurance be less than an imported STI with it being UK?
3. Is a P1 worth the extra cost?
4. and finally should I have Chinese or Indian for tea?
Thanks in advance
Janner

Hi Janner,
I've got a P1 so I can help you with that side of things. Never bothered concidering an import though so I can't help with that. I run my car on SUL, I tried optimax for a few tanks but the car kept hesitating under acceleration when warming up.
My guess about insurance would be that a UK car would be cheaper to insure but again I don't know for sure. I'm 27 paying around £1100 a year for myself and my partner on a P1.
Asking if the P1 is worth the extra cost is going to be different for different people. The import has an adjustable diff and water jets on the intercooler, the P1 is better suited to the UK roads. You get more toys on an import but like I said I never concidered an import, I just *HAD* to have a P1
Oh and I think you should have an indian

Nah, definately the chinese!
My P1 was about half as much to insure as an sti 5 for some reason.
Plus you get the benefit (sometimes) of having a uk car which would be backed by the dealers rather than shunned by them.
Even better - go and get an Evo 5/6 which is what I did - unfortunately it now means I would not even consider a scooby instead now I have moved to the other side.
Some like the 'more stealthy' scooby's but i like the 'in yer face' design of the Evo. I found the trouble was they all look the same and most of the public can't tell the difference between a sport or a P1 apart from the big wing..
Still go on here though cos everyone is a friendly bunch...

I would go for a brand new EU import STI-7 from http://www.motorpoint.co.uk for 22k on the road.
Bbbbbbbrrrrrrrrraaaaaannnnnnnndddddddddddd spanking new.
P1's, as nice as they are are the old shape. Depreciation is inevitable and as for re-salability...they can't give them away at the moment!!

Thanks for the replies but you are too late.............I opted for Chinese!!
I am not too sure on the imports what with having to run strange fuel concoctions to get it to go right. If I can get a P1 run it on SUL and maybe even get slightly cheaper insurance I will be happy. As for people unable to get rid of P1's well that just looks good for me trying to buy one.
Hmmm Perhaps I should go back to my Janner roots and drive around in a tractor. Ohh arrrrr.
