Question

After an agonising two-week period, I've decided that it would be more sensible to send my car off to Prodrive than it would be to buy a P1......
1. What performance figures should I expect from a 250bhp engine?
2 What exact package should I go for and how much does it cost......?

Hi DBM,

If it's a UK/Europe MY99, then it has 218BHP as standard. The PPP consists of a WR Sport Back Box, Centre Section, new ECU and some intercooler piping.

If you ask any dealer for the Prodrive Performance Pack (PPP), then that's what you get, so not sure what you mean by "exact package". Some may refer to it as the WR Sport Performance Pack, so maybe thats where the confusion is.

The pack takes the BHP up to 247BHP, and knocks about 0.5secs off the 0-60MPH. It's intent is more torque and it delivers big time. The biggest problem with the Scooby is you need to really push the engine to get it too work.

The PPP makes every day driving a dream. If (like me) you find having to downshift or dump the clutch to overtake anything, then you'll love the PPP.

As far as cost, then it seems to vary from dealer to dealer. Apparently, it will be £1600inc.VAT for the new '01 WRX.

Some people got a discount of £1700inc.VAT recently for a group buy, but given the cost for the new model, £1700 sounds overpriced slightly. Some dealers still try to sell it for close to £2K, or you could get it through 3rd parties for a lot less.

My advice would be to phone around the dealers armed with the knowledge that £1600 is the cost for the new car, so don't expect to pay any less from them. But, why should you pay any more now ??

Cool

DBM,
just buy it read my post about my car coming back from Prodrive (my00) all i can say is the improvement is exceptional
ive been "playing" with cars like toyota celicas (cannon fodder now ) in 5th gear and just leaving them you have to buy the pack, especially if you have a uk warrantied car, nothing else will do
(read and the hand of Prodrive did touchth my scoob)

Thumbs up

Yep, PPP is top (on my MY99 V-reg). Power figures are 254bhp power, 286lbft torque, running on SUL, with no other mods than a better air filter. The sound is fantastic (particularly in 'jet-fighter' mode going through the Dartford tunnel ) Nothing in it between me and a Boxster S the other day - he was not a happy bunny

Cheers

Boxster S!!!!!

The Boxster S shouldn't have been anywhere near you more like!

The Boxster isn't a quick car (not even an S). If you are a hairdresser you may think so perhaps!

Have to agree, the PPP on my UK00 is fabulous. Run it on SUL for best results. Even better with octane booster

Richard.

What do you mean a Boxter S isn't a fast car?

It'd cream a standard Scooby no problem.

A Boxster S is pretty much the same performance as a std Scooby, maybe a touch quicker. A PPP car should edge out ahead.

Question

Out of interest - what is the MPG reduction likely to be after fitting a PPP kit, 10%, 20%?? I'm not talking about the reduction due to the fun you are having(!) but in similar driving modes.

Hang on, the 'older' PPP is still around £2k, the cost for this has not reduced at all. The MY01 PPP is a different product, with different buying power, hence price reduction.

cheers,

Greg
