Looking at section 10, page 3 of the UK my99 owner's manual, manufacturer advises service intervals of 15,000 miles or 12 months (after the first service which should take place after 100o miles irrespective of time element). This, to my knowledge, is the radical change in comparison to earlier model years where service intervals happened to be 7,500 miles or 6 months.

1999 manual also mentions 6 months/7,500 miles servicing only in "severe conditions" and lists those which mostly do not apply in normal exploitation of a vehicle.

Could someone, please, enlighten me why are we still reading and hearing constantly about 6 months/7,500 intervals and why independent importers and mechanical warranty suppliers still expect those intervals to be respected when terms and conditions of those warranties clearly say "as per manufacturer's schedule"? Does anyone have factual knowledge that European (UK) models require less frequent servicing than WRX/STi ones?

Thanks for any clarifications for as long as they all don't differ one from another.

Interesting one this. You got me reaching for my manuals. I I don't actually cover much mileage in the Scooby (commute by m/bike) and am paying for services really just to keep the warranty cover.

My MY99 owners manual is same as yours with 12mth/15K mile intervals. If you read your service/warranties booklet the schedules are different (6mth/7.5K)

I did some further reading of the T&C of the extended warranty. The cynic in me reckons good old Subaru are making us pay for the "free" extended warranty by increased servicing costs (quite apart from rip-off Britain pricing). Or does servicing revenue stay with the dealer??

Anyway, I reckon servicing intervals for continental cars (with 1 year warranty) will be set at 12mths intervals. Subaru are probably also aiming to reduce the cost of warranty claims by "belts'n'braces" preventative maintenance?

Seems decidedly dodgy to me! Maybe our continental friends can shed some light on their approved servicing schedules?

To clarify further, I do not have either a UK (so cannot look into the servicing booklet) or a continental car - I own a Japanese car and am simply interested to establish whether 'manufacturer's schedule' in this case means 6 months/7,500 miles or 12 months/15,000 miles? The owner's manual I am referring to is for UK cars and has been provided by one of the UK Subaru dealers as a part!

Service interval is every 15000 miles in the UK Owners manual, but it says Engine oil and filter must be changed every 7500 miles or 12 months whichever comes first ? but the service and warranty booklet says every 7500 miles or 6 months, if you want to keep the warranty this is the one to keep to.

 

I suppose that this means at 8500 miles or six months after the 1000 mile service and not 7500 miles and six months from new. Now I am confused I will phone my dealer to find out.

 

My dealer (Lancaster Reading) confirmed at my 1000 mile service that the next service is due at 7500 miles or 6 months from new, not from first service.

 

I have a MY99 and it had the 1,000 mile service, and has been serviced at every 7500 mile intervals.
(just remembering I need to book in the 30K one - where's pete's number....)

 

Hmmm. Here in Belgium, service intervals are at 6.500 km so that should be about every 4.100 miles. Most of it is oil change though, and that probably never really hurts a performance car.

Still, makes one think ...

Alfa Romeos are 15,000 miles in the service book and dealer stamp book thingy. Will do oil at 7,500 though.

Just rung Bell & Colville and they confirm 7500 miles or 6 months from date of registration. They quote a price of £127? How does that compare with others?

Have just checked around and Concours in Haslemere will do it for £95 all in, inc VAT. Can't be bad.

 

I last paid £95 for a 7500mile service.
£127 sounds a bit steep.
Especially as the service is lousy. But thats another story.

I paid £95 back in October last year - so have prices gone up ??

The Adams Group in Aylesbury (Used to be Deer Leap) charged me £99 for first 7,500 service in July.
15,000 service yesterday was £195, apparently 30,000 is the expensive one.
