Removal of ECU On MY00 ???

Can anybody give me instructions on removing my ECU on my MY00 as I have a new ECU to fit. I know the ECU is in the passenger footwell but I can't see how to get at it without damaging the interior carpet. Do I need to remove the staples that staple the carpet to the plastic track which runs down the side of the car?
