Ive just had a quote for 2 new tyre's and it's not that great.

The quote i had is for 215/40/17 avon's
183.18 for the pair.
Is this a good price for a quality tyre??

If not does anyone know of a cheaper place within the manchester area?

I am willing to differ in make as long as it's a decent make, the one's ive had on were marshall and they havent lasted 8 months and i had one blow out on me whilst at lights!!!!

Sounds a little pricey
Try Tyres Northampton for a quote - they do mail order as well.

Mark or Malc on 01604 588599

Worth a call

That is a rediculous price especially for those tyres.

depending on where you are, try jet tyres in canvey,

I pay about £90 plus(ish) vat for 215 40 17inch toyo t1-s

No, that's the price for a pair fitted and balanced.

I phoned northampton tyres, they quoted me
120 toyo each, 135 bridgestone each

Sorry for the confusion my fault!

I'm starting to think it would be better to get some new rim's in a rim and tyre package 18 inch will do nicely, as i have been offered a set of brand new technomagnisium 5 spoke in a nice dark grey for 800.

Decent tyres cost decent money, Bridgestone SO2, Toyo T1-S, are the ones you should be looking for. As Bridgestone SO3's have just been released, I'd hang on for a week or so , and wait for reports to come back.

£90 a tyre is the minimum you will get away with for a decent tyre.expect SO3's to be around £120-140. Be very wary of wheel and tyre combos, make sure what the tyre will be, just the manufacturer is not good enough. ie Bridgestone make RE010's which are cr@p, and SO2's which are fantastic.

Steer well clear of Avon ZZ1s as they are bollocks. They provide little feedback, squeal embarrisingly at low corner speeds and dont even make up for themselves by providing low wear rates

Wouldnt touch them and have just swapped a pair with excellent tread depth for a pair of Yoko A520s that have 1.5mm LESS tread. And Im well happy.

I can recommend both Yoko A520s and Goodyear F1s.

Bren

btw, I can get tyres at a decent price. When youve finally decided on what tyres you want and have got the best quote mail me and Ill see if I can better the price. Im only in Bradford

Still think is overpriced. I was quoted £126 inc.VAT, fitting, balancing, etc. for 4 SO2's.

OK, it might be more just for two, but not £40 a tyre more.

Cryptwalk,

Be very careful - are you sure they're Technomagnesio's?

They certainly don't do a current wheel, thats 5 spoke, in 18" for a Scoob.

Assuming it is for a scoob of course.

Have to agree with Bren on the Avons.

I bought a Scoob with them fitted and to add to what Bren says, they were positively dangerous in the wet!

Just changed them to SO2s and the difference is night and day.

Craig i'm sure there techno magnisio i know the fellow, he has them on his scooby and they look fantastic i seen it as i drove by i'm sure there 5 spoke but i'll cheak with him tommorow cos i'm only going off what a pal told me. I would definatly look at what tyres they were after the last set which were marshall's

Are the avons really that bad i thorght they were a decent tyre. I priced some falcons they were 80 but have been unable to find anyone local for toyo.

Bren whatever you can recemend at a good price would be cool

Now i'm really confused

Crypt,
Give Steve Smith a ring, he'll tell you what avon zz's are like, probably the reason hes changing to bridgestone so-2's

Trust us, steer well clear of the Avons. A friend of mine went from a knackered set of Falcons to a new set of Avons and nearly totalled his car (Escort Cossy) on the way home!! He went round a tight bend at 85% of the speed that he would go round with the (knackered, remember) Falcons and nearly lost the back end (yeah we know they need scrubbing in but even so)! He caught it but agrees totally with me that Avons are cr@p!

If youve the money do as advised and go for SO2s or 3s as they really are the dogs. Id have had them but they are substantially more exspensive that the F1s I plumped for.

As I said, decide on your tyre, get your best quote and Ill do my best for you.

Bren
