Simon de Banke MADDER even better point.....
"thank you moray.. very informative.
A former ScoobyNet supporter, and competitor dispiser unwhitingly mad a very good point :
"A *select* few of the people that used to post but are seemingly proud not to anymore, only post negative and incredibly worthless propoganda. A high percentage of what *some* of these people used to post (and still do - elsewhere), is also misleading but is offered from a superiority complex induced perceived authority. These people tend to have strong views on everything negative to do with the scoobynet community, and must read the whole thing to be able to comment on the percentage of knowledgeable people that are shouted down by the masses."
Moray, we all know you hate me. I have just let you get on with it, but it really is getting tiresome now.
If you have anything positive to say along with all of your negative posts, then fair enough.. or EVEN if you had at least come up with your own comments rather than just quoting someone elses (that everyone can read anyway???). But you are basically becoming the thing / person you used to tell me you loathed.
I will offer you once more an olive branch and to discuss whatever it is you are so upset about in person. Otherwise, please either support this community and add something to it or stop using it as your personal soap box."
Don't worry Moray, you arn't alone......I can't think for myself either.

I applogise and take back what I put in this paragraph..
PS Simon, I think it may confuse some people when you post from both ID's... Depends whether you are bothered though.
I also have to add the Moray has contributed quite considerably to my FMIC thread, both on and off the board..

Having been around the Scoob scene for quite some time, I've noticed an alarming amount of "sad support" posts on Scoobynet.
Example:
"I got a dink in my door in Sainsburys" - 5 pages of, "Oooh, I'm so sorry, I really feel for you" type replies.
"I've just put a Scoobysport backbox on" - 10 pages of, "wow mate, that's AWESOME - god it's sooooo cool - gives another 25hp and it's nice n shiny......"
"Can get an STI7 for £20k. Should I buy it?" - 5 pages of yeah I would, i'm so jealous blah blah blah.
"P1 for sale - £xxx" 5 pages of, "Oh that's really nice, wish I could afford it etc, ooooh why are you selling it, don't leave the scooby scene etc etc.
Pics of other cars doing high speeds - replied with posts of (you need Mr Beans voice here) - "ooh, that can't be right - according to my books on gravity, velocity and frictional obstructions, you couldn't have been doing 180mph, in fact with your wheel radius, gear ratios and the current atmospheric condition, I would say you would only have been doing 167.39054 mph. Roughly"
Failing this there's the Max Power type posts of big spoilers, graphics, blue dash conversions and neon lights.
So - whereas the Scoob used to be the car for "those that know" has it now become an icon for sad introverted social hermit IT types who need a moral boost for everything that happens in life and for every decision they make?
Is Subaru responsible for a new type of inbreeding that results in the above behaviour, mixed with a good deal of snobbery and arrogance for good measure?
Whereas an increase in numbers is quite often a good thing when it comes to technical experience and development, it seems in this case that perhaps due to the people the car is currently attracting, the knowledge (and truth) has taken a step back in evolution. Hence now an exhaust and dumpvalve will give a UK Scoob 50-60hp. All imports are 320hp.
And obviously these reports are followed by countless posts from all the wellwishers.
So, where is all this well wishing and back patting leading? From all I can see it's increasing the amount of fragile egos and sense of superiority.......and the more this happens the more it's needed.
We already have a reputation for thinking we have the best car in the world which is totally unfounded - I wish the sad owners tag that now applies were also unfounded.
SIDC? Socially Inhibited Drivers Club?
Scoobynet? Becoming the Billy No Mates BBS due to the infusion of the above?

Hmm. Been around here for a while, but this is allegedly your first post. I suggest you are a regular poster using an alias. In which case, why not post as your regular user-ID (unless you're the webmaster ) and have the courage of your convictions?
IMHO your post is a good one -- well thought out and reasoned. I agree with a lot of your sentiments.

I'm saddened to say I have to agree. Whilst the "old school" are mostly still around, they don't have much to do with the board these days which I think is a real loss!!!!
I don't want a Skyline to upgrade to though....

I am sorry, but there are some valid points raised there.
We do appear to be a bit of a laughing stock community, and are always jumped on for thinking we have the best car in the world.
the impreza started life as the unknown performance bargain, but now it has been relegated to the leagues of the RS and XR badges.
These are also great cars, but as time goes by, its the reputation that comes along with them that I am not keen on.
I am also disspoainted to say that a lot of scoobynet has become crappy, having to dredge through most threads to pick otu the good stuff.
I now rarely visit general, and head straight for drivetrain (or for sale and wanted), but due to lack of search that has become clogged of late with repeated dawes device threads etc.
and which exhaust sounds better/fits/costs more?
I hate to admit it, but in summing up, it has become a place of quantity rather than quality?
for example the "how many scoob drivers have ginger hair? (for poc )" type threads. What is the point of these? people say me, me and me, oh and I am 6 ft 2 etc.
It is pointless nonsense and I dont believe that reading it adds to peoples lives.
The trouble is we are all guilty of it at some stage including myself, but with so many members, someone is always at that stage so we will always have crap threads of this nature.
Sorry for whinging, I am done now!

I should really own an RS

I am NOT taking the pi$$ out of RS's or thier owners, I have some very good friends who have em, plus they are a great bunch of people! Hell, they accept me at their meets, they must be ok!

Also agree - the days of "discovery" on Scoobynet have laregely gone, all the questions that needed asking have been asked.
Is this because newer members are younger, and posts like the ones you've mentioned are more likely to come from a younger age group?
Hopefully not. If this BBS ends up like some others i could mention, where the age of the contributors is obviously lower than Scoobynet, i'd struggle to keep coming back.
But why post the question under an alias? I'd say all those things without going to that length - it's basically true after all..!!

It's a BBS all BBS sites are full of information that people really don't care about. If you don't like it then don't go to the site.
Everyone has a right to post what ever they like and maybe igf the search engine worked on here then people would search for the information the want before posting a thread.
That's me done
I'm off to post a thread asking how many scooby drivers have two eyes and what is the best exhaust system to use and also need to reply to a few threads with nothing but ****

I disagree with
as I dont see what the profession has to do with it, however I do agree with the amount of non scooby sh1te on this site.. i think looking between drivetrain and technical you probably have 2 threads on lagging downpipes, which up-pipe, and what downpipe should I fit...
Still have to disagree with the comments in general... or maybe the truth hurts... still as the price comes down people like me can afford to get one... my car stands me at less than 6k..... I can afford to go out and buy a brand new sti 7... just would rather save the money for a house..

david, you came into the community having spent 6k and your contribution has been exactly what the bbs was all about when it started.
in that respect it has benefited from the price falling.
Unfortunately not everyones contributions are as focussed on imprezas as yours.
I liked the fact scoobynet was a resource for people needing help. Noe I think that takes a back burner to being a place for people to hang out.
Assuming of course that you can hang out in a place that doesnt exist!

Surely it provides a place for both?
Technical forums are excellent when requiring help or imparting useful information and forums such as non-scooby realated provide another more social aspect to the wonderful world of scoobys (not necessarily just imprezas) which is equally valid and lends an important added dimension to Subaru car ownership.
After all - that's why you have a drop down menu...you read whatever you want too...

If Scoobynet was not free would that get rid of pointless posts, maybe free to view but subscribe to post, just a thought provoking idea, I am not really sure it would help but I do agree, some of the posts are total b@@locks but there again some are quite amusing, perhaps the "how many scoobie owners have a green tortoise" etc should be more heavily moderated out of general & into the muppet thread.

Surely the idea of a "community" such as this is meeting other people with similar interests? While I'm sure most people are first drawn to Scoobynet for technical reasons (i.e. wanting advice etc.) but people stay around for other reasons.
Or maybe we should all post nothing until we have a technical question (or answer)? Be a pretty quiet place then, wouldn't it?
Maybe we should extend this to real events. Remember everyone, when at JAE or the SIDC event at Donno, no talking about anything but Subaru's, we don't want you socialising or anything.
