What mpg are people getting. I was expecting mid 20's with resonable driving but I have not got past 21.
But on the plus side with hard driving I haven't got less than 17.
The boost soleniod valve has been changed but nothing else.
The next stage is to leave the car with the dealer to build info for subaru.
Any suggestions ?
Car is a MY00, running SUL from Shell.
No Mods or changes.
ECU reset has been done.
HELP !

Not another MPG thread!
What do you expect from a 4WD performance car...?
I have got as much as 29mpg... keep below 3000rpm.... and as little as 17mpg...
I have stopped checking now.. just fill it up when the needle gets to empty...
ho ho JGM

Agree with JGM - Performance usually equal poor(ish)fuel economy I was under no illusions about the fuel economy/consumption when i brought mine.
I do get average around 24MPG - it got better when i fitted and induction kit and changed to SUL - i was getting 22 MPG before, doing the same type of journey/speeds.

sorry have to agree as well.
a)its a performance car
b)giving super car like performance
c)it's a turbo
I don't even measure the mpg.... just reckon on about 200 to 230 miles per fill up.

I get 45mpg+ - that is in a 330d though
In the scoob (MY99+ppp+dp+i/k) I averaged around 30mpg during the week, and around 20-22mpg at weekends, with track days seeing a worst of 9mpg
Secret is, drive off-boost, and you are running a n/a 2-litre engine

I average around 25mpg, 27 hi and 18 lo. But who cares, if I wanted a car for economy I wouldn't have sold the Golf. Just fill when empty.

Don't be so mean chaps !
I know its not going to be great, but you've all posted figures better than mine.
And as the difference between 20 and 25 is 25% thats a lot of pennies a month I can spend on mods.
As I was driving a Rover 420 turbo before I do not expect to be greener than greener.
So any more sensible suggestions would be nice !

Iv'e had my Scoob now for 2 months, and I ain't seen much better than 18 - 19 mpg .
I once took a mate to Gatwick and got caught in a slow moving jam on the M25 and that took it up to about 28mpg for the whole 230 mile round trip. So the bottom line is, as the other guys say... If you want to enjoy your Scoob... expect below 20mpg as an average

Dave,
I whole heartingly agree with Gary. If you really want economy with the Scoob then keep it below 3,000rpm. Running the car off-boost will get you economy similar to the sport model.
I'm fairly civilised in my driving these days only succombing to the odd blast along the back roads of Lanarkshire. Heavy fines, lots of penalty points and high insurance has changed my driving style somewhat over the past 2yrs.
Plodding along at 60-65 in the slow lane isn't the most thrilling experience (although it's not that exciting at 140mph either), but it will give you good economy given the nature of the car.
I don't drive like my Gran everywhere, but I still manage between 260-290 miles out of a full tank of unleaded. £40 doesn't go a long way does it

Dave,
it depends on where you do most of your driving, and how you drive the car. If most of your travelling is on Motorways, in 5th gear at 60 - 80mph, then you can expect 25 - 30mpg.
If like me, 95% of your driving is in and around town, where you are in the first 3 gears most of the time, then you will struggle to get 20mpg, especially if you do short journeys. I'm currently averaging about 210 miles per 55 litre fill, and this is a mix of town driving, and fun driving on empty country roads near my home.
On longer drives down dual carriageways etc, I can easily get 300+ miles out of a tank, with a record of 343 for 55 litres, which must be getting close to 30mpg.
However, if most of your driving is on motorways at circa 70mph in 5th gear, then there possibly is something wrong with your car, and you should take it to your dealer to have a look.
You can always try resetting the ECU (connect the green to green and black to black connectors under the steering wheel, start engine, switch off, disconnect both sets), to clear any fault codes, or traces of bad fuel which have caused the car to retard the ignition timing etc.

I agree with everone else, the the MPG thread has been done to death. Im not a scooby owner (just yet ) but i have no illusions as to what i should expect from a tank of SUL! The new car still looks far too ugly for me, so my 1st choice is still a Jap STi.....
Prob because i will only have to pay for the diff between my current car (28-30 MPG average) and the new one. (company car )

Ok, my MY01 is too young, but on the same trip with my old Legacy turbo, I did 33 going one way, and 14 going the other... I usually averaged at 20-21...
Now KILL this thread !!! A sports car will never be predictable consumptionwise... Just have fun, will you ?

I agree that mpg is going to be low and have no problem with that.
Thanks Ozzy,JohnS and Gary for realistic replies.
But as JohnS said more should be possible for the longer runs and that is what I am not achieving. Even the dealer says that !
I was only posting to see if anybody had issues in the past that really affected fuel so I could check them.
And Max, I am having fun and lots of it !!!! , but if I can find more money for the mods I will have more fun.
If nobody has any suggestions then no problem in killing the thread

Moray m8, have you had your eyes tested recently
How the heck did you manage 390miles? Were you pushing it part of the way
It seems my car uses petrol when it's not even moving
Dave,
Your very welcome. This thread has been done-over before, but we're always happy to give you some honest advice as well as providing a good excuse for a moan. I am a Scot after all

Stefan,
Sorry M8, my eyes are fine... I may or may not have been cruising at 75 to 89 ish. 50.1 litres. Unleaded. 390 miles. Starting in Ayr.
Maybe you are making some assumption about these statements... now what could that be?

Moray, would you like to specify what make / model of car this figure was achieved in?
Dave, the only way I could get the same figures as other members of this board was by driving off boost.
Instructions:
Fill up the tank, find a motorway, plant yourself in the left hand lane at 56mph, stick to this speed until your fuel light comes on.
You will be amazed how much longer the petrol lasts for (as long as you can stay awake) over 300 miles from a tank, where previously 200 seemed impossible.
