2.0 GX Saloon - Anybody driven one?
#1
Since I got rid of my MY97 turbo I've been driving a Golf 1.8 non T GTI as a Co. car. Although heaps cheaper than running the scoob, I'm thoroughly bored with it and it's time to change soon.
I can get a 2.0 GX saloon, which I reckon should be way sharper to drive than the Golf which has slow steering and roly-poly body roll.
Anyone driven the GX (even as a courtesy car) and care to give an opinion?

Shortly, I'll (98 Turbo) will be overseeing the old man (98 Legacy 2.5 Quadcam)'s new purchase, at present on his list are:
1) Golf V6 4motion
2) New Impreza GX/RX
3) New Impreza WRX with softened suspension and seats - he doesn't like the hardness of the present Turbo. Quite enough complaining at the moment whenever he's in my car . Will give full report when I've driven/(or scared the old man) in the new Impreza.

I got my GX two weeks ago
bought some 17s for it.
handles great better than MY00. The interior is a lot better, cd player and climate control thingy.
I have a GX due to insurance wont insure the wrx for me.
Another plus point it is a lot cheaper to insure than a impreza sport cause it has a CAT 1
Anyways, my advice is to get one they are great

I had one as a courtesy car a few weeks back, handles pretty damn good but not sure if it handles as good as my MY00 turbo thou, the thing you find is that it really feels sluggish incomparason with a turbo, clutch is very light, gearbox is good thou and interior quality is better. It doesnt really come alive until around 5k but by then there aint alot left on the rev range, did over 120 miles mainly motorway but had some nice roads to belt down too
Overall opinion :-
Great equipment list which inc air con and cd player, radio still cr@p thou as it needs to "catch up" with the signal and you notice it too
Handles great but needs bigger tyres but i think the turbo would be better
Try and get one for the next time

I had a GX for Thurs-Sat. Was very pleasently surprised. The suspension is worlds better than my old my98 turbo and consequently the ride is superb. My dad is now considering buying one. The gearchange again is superb and it was nice to have four doors again.
Picked the p1 up again saturday and the ride was as harsh as you like and you miss the climate control!
But, you dont miss the [lack of] power of the Gx.
Cheers
