Question

A bit of advice required please. My other half has decided she has to have an sti in WR blue with gold alloys. Apart from the cosmetics are the driving characteristics altered in any way by having the prodrive option over the basic sti?

Also,I've noticed a few websites such as virgin offering decent discounts, what am I likely to pay at a scoob dealership for cash? Nipped in to my local dealership and they were not prepared to do a deal at the moment as I'm looking to purchase in August. They did have an sti in stock which they would do a deal on now if I bought it in june but it's got to be August...........any advice welcome, looking forward to experiencing my (sorry our) first scoob.

Cool

Welcome to scoobynet mate.

I would go for the prodrive one because you get all the goodies including a proper spoiler.
I have heard on the grape vine that subaru are going to revamp the new subaru so you might be better just waiting a bit longer or give your local dealer a call.

Ta, I've heard a lot about scoobynet but never ventured here before, the dealer kind of intimated that plans were afoot for something new, any ideas on time scales? Does this mean the sti Uk is going to be a short term filler before another big restyle? I wonder if it would be more sensible to buy a WRX with a prodrive spoiler?

I would buy the std car and put the prodrive rear spoiler on as an aftermarket add on. I believe the rear spolier is the only better styling thing on the prodrive as most of the other items make the car look worse and add more weight. Like it needs more weight! The front spoiler on the prodrive styled car makes it look like it has a fat lip!

No!

The Virgin ones will be imported, you'll need to check warranty etc.

The prodrive mods are just cosmetic, and IMO look worse than the standard STi - I couldnt see the need to pay £1500 for no obvious benefit, so I bought the standard STi.

The cars offered by Virgin are not type UK cars even though Virgin advertise them as such (isnt this a case for Trading Standards?)- they are imports and have a different spec - inferior security, no manufacturers warranty etc. maybe no radio. But - you pays your money.....

Residuals will also be lower on an import.

The Virgin cars certainly do have the manufacturers 1 year warranty - same as a UK car. However you will lose the 2nd and 3rd years warranty which is provided by International Motors in the UK.
Make sure the car is sourced from an EU nation if you want main dealer servicing - avoid Cyprus cars.
Liti Imports (banner on this site) are a good importer of Japanese domestic market cars (as well as european spec), you could do alot worse than give them a call

Thanks for all the advice, think we will avoid the EU import and go to a main dealer, just waiting for their demo car to be back on the road after a "small problem."

blot928,

Hmm, dealer with a small problem on the demo car, sounds like KT Greens? It's worth trying the other dealers around as well to see if you can get a deal. The Subaru web site shows local dealers, I bought my car from KT Greens but goto FR Pulleyns as their servicing is so much cheaper.

regards,

greg

gregh, Where are Pulleyns based? Also, what are servicing costs like? I gather it's 12 month intervals but suspect I'll be changing brake pads sooner than that............

Pulleyns have a black Prodrive STI as a demo.

Their servicing may be cheap but unless you're wearing an Armarni the sales staff will treat you with contempt!

If it's not too far over to Blackburn, try A J Whites. They have an STi demonstrator in WR Blue- can't remember if it's a prodrive.
I have used them for a while now and can recommend them highly!
