I went with Andy Williams
i received best advises from fbtuning
I asked slowboy racing ,chevron, asperformance, tdr
enginetuner just sent me price with no spec
about build depends how many horses You are after, mine 2.1 jdm sti just being done 7.2k build plus injectors.
think up to 550 horses maybe a little less semi closed deck is fine ,over that You need closed deck inserts or closed deck block
build with forged pistons, bridgeway rods 11mm studs etc costs 4.5k plus engine in out
i added 14mm studs ,supertech valves,rcm pulleys,rcm manifold spacers
rcm rods are plus 800
stronger cambelt is extra to
if You need heads work thats extra
and depends from Your bhp target You could need cams, fuel system, clutch, aos ,engine oil cooler, bigger intercooler ,turbo ,ecu, coolant pipes ,oil pipes,3 port ,4 bar map sensor
mine recent build

Williams racing Ltd but best is to contact with flat4performance they base in north Wales, they remove and fit engine for Andy. My 2nd choice would be asperformance-stockcar here. It will take 8-12 weeks depends how busy they are.
For example my rods are bolted with arp2000 bolts but I could use arp625's .
Nothing wrong with 2000 , for my build this are fine but other ones are stronger maybe better for 550 horses target.

TDR (Thwaites Development Racing) in Warwick would get my vote, they have done a lot of work for people on here, they rebuilt one of my own engines recently and they are superb to deal with.

They’ve said they have loads of different options so when they receive everything they are going to guide me through all the options and go from there they said expect to spend about 6k anyway send a deposit they crack on and pay the rest when finished, I’m hoping to get everything sent down in next week or 2 so I’ll update once all sorted and got go ahead for my option

They are,
I would ask for quote before sending them engine
If You have engine out send it to asperformance for them to fit closed deck inserts when they will built it.

okay will do he said before I’d probably looking at about 5k+vat but wouldn’t know 100% till saw everything was looking at as performance reviews then seem really good especially with Subarus as well, I have a closed deck block and engine out on pallet now was just kind of waiting for my other toy to sell and deciding where to go few people pointed me in direction of scooby clinic, how long did it take them to build yours?

As mentioned above in my first post mine has been done by Andy Williams( took him 3 weeks) as my engine was in a car-removed by flat4performance.
If my engine will be out of car I will send it to Andy or asperformance.
If it's closed deck You do not need inserts thats a bonus.
First set in mind Your bhp target and turbo.
2.1 build for 550 horses will costs 7.2k with 14mm studs ,bw rods supertech valves, forged pistons,2.5l crank, rcm termal spacers and in my case oem jdm heads with oem cams, oem cambelt ,rcm gaskets, rcm pulleys.

Injectors-as performance 1000cc bosch ones, fuel pump, aos, baffle plate, oil cooler are extra but if You find build from good builder cheaper You could save money for those extra parts.
550+ build needs
better rods 800 quid more ,maybe high grip cambelt kit ,cams +1k ,adjustable pulleys 200 more
build with just forged pistons,11mm studs, rcm gaskets will cost 4.5k but 14mm studs costs not much more, and with higher revs You could have valve float due to oem springs ,i just went with full kit (£1k more) but You can add just stronger springs.

we always supply costs / options up front and the only thing that can't be done prior to inspection / strip is of course assess any damage and what is re-useable...........

best to email the office direct for best response...........

just to add using +1mm oversize valves in std Subaru heads achieves nothing apart from extra cost due to the 'shrouding' of the factory castings........

*update*
I did go with scoobyclinic in the end as ball was already rolling engine now back and in car doing run in miles was a bitty more pricey than I thought but hey ho it’s all done now and I’ve had no issues so far, I had couple damaged heads and stuff. What was your run in procedure?

Run in process , careful for first 1k miles than an oil change , careful as keep boost low around .5 bar revs under 3 k every 250 miles done raise the revs around 1 k rpm , vary where you drive so you use the rev range , use some boost but low to bed things in , just had mine built and at the 1k miles covered , I've had it before where they just put a standard pipe in between the turbo and the actuator that limits boost to around .5 bar 👍 once it's run in then slowly raising boost and revs so a few more miles after the 1 k miles covered to let Ecu re learn and bed things in 👍

When i did the run in for my 20th Anniversary that Mark at TDR rebuilt i did a run to Scotland in it from Cheshire, i drove to the Forth Bridge at Queensferry. It was an ideal run for the engine as the load would be varied due to the changhing inclines and hills on the M6 whilst keeping it under 4k revs but varying the revs below that and upto 4k to help seat the piston rings properly. The biggest challenge was planning the run so i had plenty of Tesco fuel stations that would be open 24hrs as i did the run at night and into the early hours of the morning when the roads would be quieter, i did a couple of stops along the way so i wasn't constantly doing an 8hr round trip and had a nice long stop at the Forth Bridge.

Sounds like a reasonable run in sequence 👍😁
