Default Clutch not fully disengaging

So car is a 2005 sg Fsti , I’ve been away for two weeks , cars left outside , new clutch fitted around a year ago , car starts fine but won’t engage a gear ? Very stiff trying to push it into gear , If you start it in gear the car starts but clutch is clearly dragging , it moves back wards and forwards when in gear , but clutch is on the floor , I’ve pumped the pedal , stalled it a few times to see if something is stuck/ rusted in all this weather , no effect , thoughts please 😩

Check the travel on the gearbox linkage before you start condemning the clutch etc. It could be a dodgy master or slave cylinder or a number of other things.

Nothing wrong with that you've plenty of travel etc. It' you can put it in gear and put the handbrake on and then try and go forward and backwards it may free up.

Still can’t get gears , i was told stick it in first gear and with the clutch up break hard but still not happening , not sure what the issue is , logically says it’s rusted to something

You need the clutch depressed to break it free.

with your foot fully down on the clutch pedal, accelerate and brake (sometimes quite aggressively required) and it will generally free off
sometimes you need to pump the clutch pedal during this process

I had a similar problem yesterday after mine had been standing 10 days and put it down to the rain and damp weather lately. Also got a fairly new clutch so know its all OK and it was fine when I used it 10 days ago on a 130 mile trip but wouldn't go in gear either. Did the same and started it in gear with the clutch down and it made a clonk and released and then fine, so maybe with yours being parked up a bit longer than mine its rusted on a bit more.

Hope this helps (PS get well soon!)

could be a worn fork which sits inside the clutch

highly unusual on the "pull" type set-ups albeit it does happen on the pressed steel later 'push' type 2.5 WRX / Hatch cars........

It went off on the trailer yesterday , car is not that low but had to take the bumper off to get it on board , so being looked at on Monday , the mechanic said possible collapsing clutch release bearing , im hoping it’s just stuck on so the only cost should be taking the box off , i will have to wait and see , 👍

So the box was taken off today , this is what the guy said , any thoughts ,i find it a bit confusing

I would recommend a clutch. Nothing really obvious with it but feels like weak springs in the cover
Do you know the make of clutch in it?

If the springs were weak wouldnt it be the opposite of your issue?

If there is a clutch fault would it not be fairly obvious , it’s all sounding a bit vague , the garage do know there stuff and have worked on a number of scoobies , just worried it’s a case of can’t find the issue swap a part but will the issue come back again ? ☹️

Ask them was the friction plate stuck to the flywheel or pressure plate for starters.

POSSIBLY the release bearing wasn't clipped in properly, or a collapsed spigot bearing.

When the clutch was taken off , the clutch was not apparently stuck to the flywheel , it’s an standard exedy clutch , it’s working ok , bite is quite low for me , it’s about 1 to 2 inches or so up from the floor , a bit free play when pushing down , is that the norm just feels different from the old clutch when it was working ok 👍

I had something similar to this a few years ago. It had been very wet, car was parked up in gear, unfortunately quite close to a stone wall. Pedal wouldn't disengage clutch. I think a respected member on here advised me to try and start it in gear, which was worrying so near the wall. The first jerk freed it, and it never happened again. Not alot of help at all, but I'm following to hear a solution to the mystery

Sounds about right for a new clutch.

So I found the clutch issue , the split , seeing if it’s can be a warranty job as not even a year old , and not a lot of miles on it either 👍
