20 Year Old needs Insurance 2003 Subaru STi Help!!
Hi guys, been a long fan of the Subaru Impreza Wrx Sti 2003 and I finally bought one. I am 20 years old and am having trouble with the insurance stuff. It seems that none of them allow me to unless I'm 21, I have added my parents (both clean slate 15+ years driving), but still nothing.
Does anyone know any decent companies that will let me on? My parents taught me to race in go-karts for years and I am amazing at driving because of the carryover with reaction times/general skills, however I only got my license recently. Now I've just got the Impreza waiting outside with no insurance :/
Any ideas? I live in UK, born in UK.
Thanks!

Try a specialist insurer for higher risk drivers ( because that's how your age group is categorised, like it or not) like Keith Michaels. Be prepared to pay alot, and for Christ's sake don't tell them that you think you're an amazing driver; let the drivers around you make that decision.

Keith Michaels wouldn't insurance me when I first got an Impreza, as I'd never had one before, they wanted me to have 1 year driving experience and I was older than 21.

Mothball it, enrol on an advanced driving course, and preferably a 'defensive driving' or 'drive to survive' course too. Get yourself a sensible tame little runabout and get some SAFE road driving experience under your belt, and a year or 2 no-claims. .Stick to the speed limit, DON'T have your radio on whilst driving - it distracts from thinking and analysing the road, and the louder the music, the faster you'll find yourself going. Gocarting is fun you just aim and go- but not the same as road driving, 'cos there are such things as children, cyclists, dogs, other road users, signs to obey, idiot testosterone charged other drivers to contend with, - the defensive driving course should instruct you in how best to defuse a situation, and to NOT rise to the bait in such circumstances. Road driving
is not a race, it's a challenge to get about safely. You've only learned to pass the driving test, now you need to learn to drive, otherwise you'll be waving goodbye to your licence in no time. (young drivers are a magnet to the police)
If you want 'fun' in your Scoob, then how about a trailer on your parents' car and take it to track days? Stay safe and welcome to the forum!

Insurance companies generally like to see that you have had experience with a fairly quick car to start with. Put it this way, I am 48 (tomorrow) and my wife is 43. The car I bought last year is insured in my wife’s name, it is a jdm legacy spec b (wr limited) and most normal insurance companies can’t find the model (they can only find 3 litre spec b) so had to go with a specialist, who were keen to know if we had experience with fairly powerful cars even at our age. Once I told them we also have an Impreza wrx that we have had for 15 years they were happy (I’ve also driven several 700 horsepower super cars and I too am an awesome driver 😉
if you can mothball it for a year as suggested, it might be an idea to get some quotes on something cheap and as quick or high powered as possible before getting it on the road as suggested above. Maybe if one of your parents can insure it and book some track days so you can at least enjoy it in the meantime.
And as has also been alluded to, driving a go kart, although good experience and great for reaction times (I am a biker so reaction times are pretty essential) is not really a comparison to driving a car on the road (especially a fairly powerful one) and I have always been a firm believer that you only start learning to drive after you have ‘learnt’ to drive and passed your test (which you obviously have)
I do see plenty of young lads, and my 19yo son has a few mates, that have fast/powerful cars so there must be some insurance companies out there that could insure you (I had a Sierra xr4x4 at your age which was quite quick back then for £480 a year insurance) but be
prepared to be raped in the process nowadays.
