Will a front sub frame off a 05 model Impreza fit a 04 model Impreza or will it have to be like for like 04-04 and 05-05 etc?

are you talking about the lower "U" frame crash structure or the actual subframe??

crash structure is basicaly the same fitment from memory but MY04 is the last narrow track car and MY05 the first wide-track an the steering rack mountings, etc all change..........

not sure about front but for a rear it's the same part number,difference in subframes for wrx and sti are bushings metal ones for sti-no longer in production than You have to stick with wrx buying new.
It's not a subframe making widetrack on sti ,mainly 5mm longer lateral arms ,sway bar etc.
