Ok I bought my first WRX and I am excited!
Hi members.
I posted asking advice about getting a WRX.
Today I bought one privately. It’s a 2005 model build date 27/10/2005. By the way I love it!
Down to my question- this one has what looks like black leather seats with WRX on them and a 2.5 litre engine and 5sp manual. I got a online vehicle report and original motor etc. It’s pretty low kms for a 2005 with service history.
What I can’t work out is the specific model as it has dual airbags, the 2.5 litre motor and non cloth (leather?) trim.
Vin is JF1GDGKD36G049…..
The vehicle report doesn’t mention anything about upgraded options etc.
Can anyone shed some light on whether the leather seats and 2.5 litre were options or if this is not a base model.
Thanks in advance.

Although built in 2005 it's a MY06 (model year 2006) Hawkeye. (Build dates 06/2005 - 06/2006)
As it's an AUSDM (Australian Domestic model) you will need to check out what option packs where available in Aus for the MY06 cars as they are not listed in the workshop manual and without the complete VIN am unable to confirm what the actual Option code is although it should be on the VIN plate wherever that may be on the Aus models.
MY06 VIN and Model plate (applied model code) info

Could you opt for leather seats in the 06?

2.5 WRX SL type UK comes with leather seats, what does it say on the silver sticker on the front drivers side door pillow, open the door and u'll see it near the bottom on the door pillow.

As below in the VIN info, the Main Option code is "RC". What that includes,I have no idea, but may have included Leather.
You need to look at sites like THIS for info on what was fitted to Aus cars
UPDATE:
This 2006 Aus WRX listed below doesn't appear to have Leather seats and has the same option code, so yours may have be to an upholsterers

Yes UK version SL came with Sunroof and leather, basically a WRX with slight higher trim spec.

What did you mean by ‘Aus model country checking in’?
Its funny I have searched endlessly today and could only find the limited and sti with leather option so like you say it might have been an option for normal WRX. They are definitely not re upholstered. Either way they are bloody comfy and look sweet.

Just about spot on about 145km for yours. Pretty much same for mine. I’m picking up in a couple of days and have too much browse site time.
1st mod- ecutek and stage one. Although the exhaust etc is invidia (but this cat stuff has me confused!) I’ll have to upgrade the fuel pump probably and fit some three port turbo thingy. $1590 fitted and dyno tune done. 300 fuel pump similar for port. Reading online forums it’s highly recommended. If it means more torque and kw and better normal driving I’m in.
I’ll prob leave it at that as It’s pretty cool already. My brother has a 2008 WRX hatch and this outstyles it and seems more raw. That’s why I went a GD.
Maybe Subi dealer could check their system for specs. It just isn’t common.

Thanks Jay. I did some further reading. So given this one has Invidia turboback its hp rather than exhaust note. I spoke to one of our WRX tuners over here and it sounds like the stage 1 mods will suit me fine. ECUTec with dyno tune and just need to upgrade the fuel pump and 3 port boost control solenoid. So about $2200 Aus. The dyno chart on the website shows 30kw and 130nm increase. I did discuss the Cobb and ECUtek units but he advised a dyno tune the best way to get a good result which makes sense.

You can get a Prodrive 3 port boost solenoid, or ICP do a budget version.

I wouldn’t go mental with it. Seems to be more engine failures with the 2.5 in STI form than WRX, head gasket and ring land failure. Bigger turbo/more boost from the STI exacerbates this so if you are planning trying to get STI power out of a WRX then you might need a contingency fund.

They have a few useful videos on there channel, one recommends how much power the engine can take.

Think you can still get the Prodrive units but cheaper. Here's one Australia.

Just what I thought. Even that linked unit is only a Pierburg and doesn’t have anything to do with Prodrive other than saying they have been supplied to them in the past.

I just picked it up. Love it.
Thanks for your help and advice folks. Your comments give me some things to research.
The condition for a 17 year old car is exceptional. And gotta say the leather seats really set it off and are comfy as.
1st of many tanks of 98.
