Default The devisive hatchback! which one?

Hi all - newbie alert... I have been reading a bunch of posts on the forums and there are some serious motors on here! Which has added more fuel to the fire of wanting to get into the Scooby world.
I am looking at buying a hatchback, which would appear has very strong opinions on both sides ... i am in "bloody love them" camp and have been for years. I am a hatchback kid at heart after having a number of other hatches over the years.

Its going to be more of a weekend warrior car, and the odd trip to nursery in it. So my thoughts are getting a hatchback having a boat load of fun it it, and having it as a bit of an investment on the driveway (thats how i will sell it to my wife anyway!)...

Main question i have is that there seems to be a bunch of options anywhere from £10k - £20k. I have seen twinscroll, 330s, 20th anniversary, and JDM's.... which one would you advise to be focusing the hunt on? i see that i am best to swerve UK 2.5's unless they have been forged, right?

These caught my eye (do they belong to anyone on here?)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125121071...sAAOSwtDVhk4D-

Thanks all - looking forward to getting behind the wheel soon enough

If you don't want the scooby burble then JDM all day every day. 20th anniversaries and spec c are what you want to look at although the normal JDM variant is fine too.

However if you do decide the burble is where its at and want a 2.5 make sure its properly forged and by a reputable outfit. Have a chat with @The Joshua Tree he has done an insane amount of research and also owns a 20th anniversary and a UK forged running around 500bhp.

The 20th you have linked "appears" to be a bargain, but needs checking out. It comes with every suspension mod that Sti could throw at it, and is therefore in another league to a UK car.
I'm biased, but jdm hatch is the choice for me. Like you, I love hatches

ah, ok - that is so helpful re engine sound... I had no idea, will def bear that in mind. Not seen many spec c kicking about, so i guess they are the proper desirable ones. You are right about @The Joshua Tree i have clicked through a bunch of posts and that has cleared up a lot! seems like he has done a lot of the hard work for me .... I also see that one of them could be up for sale at some point...

The second link seems a bit too good to be true, also pretty vague on receipts invoices etc... what are your thoughts? seems a great deal if straight...

Yeah thats what i thought - there is a couple of 20th anniversary ones kicking up in Scotland at the moment. I will have a look at the site and see if there is a "what to look for" guide to a hatch, if you have any pointers that would be great too...

That is one stunning looking motor, look amazing in yellow... cracker of a pic... is that a standard jdm? did you use Torque GT?

I'm not saying don't buy a Scottish car but approach with caution. I didn't realise how salty their roads are.

Make sure its been undersealed

This one is a cut above the other one in so many ways, give Martyn a call and have a chat with him, the car has not seen much of the UK roads and has been dry stored for the past year I think

Funnily enough, I've been looking at hatches recently. Trying convince my GF she'd like it more than her mini (she knows full well it's an excuse )

I would get the best looking 20th anniversary I could find. It would be a daily though.

I am biased of course, but really wanted to continue with the 2.5 burble after a hawk and FSTI so ended up going for a 330s as they are a bit more exclusive and have better seats etc. Also worth point out most parts on the Anniversary can be added to a UK hatch anyway.

That said if I was in the market for a R205 then..............

@Rusti did but think you guys must have been typing at the same time. If I remember correctly the stock turbo is good for something like 400bhp right out the box. But good luck getting one at a decent enough price.

Very wrong.

I couldn’t sell mine last September for £26k and eventually put it down to Torque GT to sell for me.

They sold it for £27k.

The market for them in the UK is tiny.

No way mate. A low mileage import spec c are fetching £20k plus these days. Thats a shocker.

The age old saying just because a dealer has it up for £40k doesn't mean they are selling at that price. Why did you sell yours.

Thats why you can imagine how shocked I was that the r205 didn't sell quickly.
