Default Turbo advice

Sorry yet another post about what turbo

Short story my turbo has been chucking oil out the back so took it off to inspect it and there’s loads of play in the shaft so looks like it needs a rebuild

I have a few options here do I rebuild my current turbo which is a GT3676R that I bought from engine tuner around 5 years ago but who do I get to rebuild it ?

Next option is do I just get a new turbo as I won’t lie my current set up isn’t suited to my forged 2.0 sti engine it’s laggy as hell and I’d rather loose bhp figures but have a fast spooling turbo

But what turbo would I replace it with that will suit my current set up ? Pretty much a fully forged sti 2.0 engine with supporting mods can post spec if needed, Bob Rawle swears by the rcm precision turbo but at nearly 2k is there a cheaper option ?

Keep seeing people on Facebook with hybrid turbos and getting some really good figures

Just out of my depth here

Any advice welcome

I know your turbo is blown but check your PCV valve (sound like a broken record lol).

Theres a guy called Craig Bellworthy, loads of guys have used him on here. He should be able to modify your turbo to reduce the lag. Give him a call and speak through the options.

Just replace the cartridge, did it myself on a Vectra.

What I mean is when I hit boost it sends a cloud of smoke out the exhaust after looking at the turbo there’s play in the shaft and can only imagine it’s burning oil

been offered a low mileage SC42 that I’m tempted by

more than likely over fuelling which is normal , play not so good , smaller turbo but then it’s the cost of a remap too , the 2 litres are often going to be laggy v the 2.5 , sports cat can help reduce lag , if it was me i would get your current one re built , theres good and bads between the 2 and 2.5 , lag being the downside stronger engine the upside

I previously had an AET unit based on the GTX3071r on my 2.1 and it felt great. very responsive and made over 450bhp. It cost about £1600 new which I thought was fairly reasonable too. Would buy one again if I was looking at that kind of power. I also had a great service from them, I just told them I want a fast spooling turbo that made 450 and they delivered.
