I gasket rebuilt my engine in my 2004 Impreza TS 2.5L SOHC non-turbo due to head gasket failure and did the timing with a new water pump and thermostat, also replaced the radiator and radiator hoses about 5000 miles ago. Flushed the coolant system very well and burped it with a coolant funnel. Ran fine with no problems for about 5000 miles and then overheated. Replaced the water pump and thermostat again also with new radiator hoses. Ran fine for 50 miles or so then overheated again. Flushed the radiator heavily then flushed through the heater core then through where the upper radiator hose connects. Replaced the temp sensor and now the car gauge reads much higher than the actual temp on my scanner. Fans turn on around 199° is that normal or too high? They seem to operate as they should. There is no leaks no mixing. I feel like I’ve done everything at this point and don’t know the next step.

I did a full rebuild on mine when the head gasket went including the bottom end. Did you only replace the gaskets ?

 

if the heads were not skimmed then it’s likely hg would have gone again

 

I had the heads resurfaces at a trusted shop used MLS head gaskets and new head bolts.

i only replaced the gaskets and adjusted the valves as the components (pistons,rods,crank etc...) looked the be in good condition during the tear down. Cross hatchlings in the cylinder walls also looked perfect.

 

199f is about 93C. Seems within operating temperature.

Have a check of your header tank, if it is the newage ones they tend to crack, swap it out for the plastic version.

 

Was it a genuine oem sensor?
