Default Hood scoop functionality for NA?

Hey all, first post here on scoobynet, i had a question on my mind, as im sure most people know/are somewhat bothered by, people tend to put hood scoops on NA subarus, which often cause a bit of annoyance , but i was wondering, if someone with a hood scooped NA engine simply removed their entire intake, and just slapped a pop filter where the air box had sat, would the air pushing through from the hood scoop then make it properly functional? is this a viable option for an out of the ordinary cold air intake? would rain be an issue with coming in and possibly just soaking the pod? has anyone DONE this mod? appreciate any and all comments/feedback, thanks in advance!

Right to start off it's a bonnet scoop. Where are you from?

Funny enough I thought all the same things your asking. So I thought I'd try it. I've fitted a STI bonnet on my non turbo. And I have bought an induction kit. Problems I have faced so far is I noticed a few error codes, which turned out to be a knock sensor and throttle. I gathered this was due to adding the scoop and water now getting in.

I reattached the undertray which has helped and sprayed WD40 around the cables for the knock sensor and throttle, to remove water moisture Error code has not returned.

Next stage is to fit induction kit and build a aluminium frame to make sure water is not just blasted around the engine and into induction kit. Still thinking of ideas.

Best thing is as it's my daily and I'm not fussed about it, it's fun to invent new things. I will see how it runs after and get my mate to remap it. Also picked up a cheap used sports cat so that went on aswell lol

Well that's more confusing as they call it a bonnet down under not a hood.
