driving normally down dual carriageway the car suddenly lost power coughed and sputtered and when put foot on the throttle it just died
Got into a car park.
wondering what it might be any ideas?

Fuel pump? In tank pump is 10 years old but it has Bosch 044 and swill tank at the front


No check engine light codes come up yet

Try to start the car it fires up and then stops, doesn't like the throttle being pressed - stalls.

The only recent change is having to change the radiator a couple of days ago

 

check alarm is working ok , if fuel pump is working you will hear it primping , fuel pump relay ?

 

Sounds like it is the in tank fuel pump

 

Possible that the internal filter in the fuel tank is restricting flow to the swirl pot or indeed the internal tank pump has failed. There is no real service interval on them but I had one fail and kept chucking a lean code up when driving but I had no swirl pot at the time so hence the code.

 

Seems like a "global" engine issue - not a misfire on a single plug etc. hence my thoughts of fuel pump ( or MAF ? ) (( or losing air after MAF ?? ).

Also the FMIC pipework goes through the inner wing and that's where a silicone pipe is that looks to be tight on the hole edge - may have cut into silicon pipe and so losing air from system?

Fuel to swirl pot from tank seemed to flow and outlet of Bosch pump, when I popped off hose to check, but need to do it again and check.


Recovered home, tried to fire up in my garage, ran for a few seconds, badly, lumpy and rough, but would not take any throttle or call for torque ( stalled ).
No CEL codes thrown up yet.

 

I would be checking the fmic pipe work for leaks or a blown off pipe.

 

First check - FMIC pipes etc. - the one I had removed to change the radiator the other day HAD blown off the bottom joint where it goes thru inner wing.

Hope that is all it was!!

Stupid, stupid, stupid...

So it looks like I put the T bar / jubilee clip on the silicone hose, AFTER the lip on the hard pipe for the FMIC, so as soon as it got boost, 24PSI, it blew off. Didn't look like it had blown off when I looked in the car park, but at home with a torch it was obvious!

Yep, started and drove fine after pushing the FMIC pipe back in ( with hairspray !! ) and clipping it up. Seems that was all it was...

I hate it when you make silly mistakes like that. And takes you ages to workout what you've done wrong lol

I fitted a stereo once and wouldn't work. Had take it to electrical auto place. Loose wire cost me nearly £40 lol
