Hi,

Picking up a new WRX this week. What are the views on running them in ?

I've been told to drive it normally (whatever that is) and not to worry about keeping it low revs etc.

Do it by the book.

After 500 miles gradually increase the revs at every additional 100 miles or so. Try not put a constant amount of strain on the motor by not driving at a constant speed on the motorway whilst running in and try not labour the engine.

They'll always be one or two twits out there who say 'I frashed my mota from day one, and I ain't 'ad no problems'. Just ignore them.

It was the dealer who told me not to worry about how I drive. He mentioned something about the way the management unit learns from how the cars driven - and that it will be better in the long term to drive it normally.

Dealer told me that you have lubricating oil in to start with, not performance oil (gets changed at 1000 miles)

Dealer + several on hear have said : 3000rpm for the first 15mins then max 4000rpms until you reach the 1000 mile service. Build it up slowly from there, apparantly it keeps getting better the more you run it upto approx 10000 miles ... can't comment myself, mines only done 2000.

Read the manual. Keep BELOW 4000 rpm for first 1000 miles

Engine oil supplied with modern car is normally mineral / running in oil, this aid's all the moving bits to bed in. This oil is not designed for general use....hence the running period. Follow the guide-lines in your hand book, Keeping below 4K but do not labour the engine. Increase Revs to MAX over the next 1k if you can't resist.

I ran mine for 1.5k before opening her up.

Run it between 3-3500 revs but not hard on the throttle take it easy for at least a 1000 miles and dont drive it fast from cold.

Why worry, there is a 3 year warranty with the new ones...All the more reason to enjoy it from day 1, mile 1!

Twiggs/Usololemyname...........you must be the biggist pair of ***** out!.....god help the poor sod that buys your car second hand..if the engine last`s long enough to sell it!
Take my advice..first 1000 miles 3000 revs (without labouring it) then gradually increase the revs by abt 500 to 500 miles ie 1500 miles = 3500 revs 2000 miles = 4000 revs etc I know it`s a pain but the longivity of the engine and the slow bedding in period pay`s dividends in the long run. Have a bit of mechanical sympathy and take no notice of the ******* that tell you otherwise they must have more money then sense! and are complete arseholes!.
