Default How to remove GC8 rear window upper trim

Hi Guys

I have stupidly applied excess touch up paint for a couple of stone chips to the rear of the roof, however I managed to get some on the rear upper window trim and I csnt get it off.

Car is a 1997 gc8 impreza sti v3

Does anyone have an idea how to remove this trim piece https://www.importcarparts.co.uk/par...y=&searchPart=

Other than that, any ideas what I can use to remove the excess paint? Problem is that it is close to the roof so don't want to risk screwing the paintwork up

Thanks in advance!

That trim should just pull off as it is only held in by the mastic that also holds the window in, only problem is once you pull it out it won't go back in as the mastic holding it in will have set round it. I had the issue with mine, I managed to push it back into the same holes but it is not properly flush anymore.

I suppose you could try and scrape out the mastic and squirt in some fresh stuff before squishing the trim in place.

Thanks mate. Didn't realise it was just held in by that!!

May try and find something that will remove paint from trim and just leave it on car

If you look at ICP's illustration it shows the piece (assuming this is what you want to remove) is originally fitted using 5 clips

On my MY00 Don the back top of window trim is held on with the black mastic same as the top of windscreen trim, the side strips that go front to back are held on with those clips you showed.

Thanks Don. I did see that but was not sure how it went together. That makes sense thanks.
With that in mind, what is the best way to remove?

what I have read so far is that you will snap the clips when taking it off, I guess I would just buy 5 new clips.

Is it a a case of pulling it up or moving to side?

anyone who has removed it would really help me
