Default Are these the same imprezas or different?

hi guys

here are two turbo 2000 both say they are year 2000 but I note one is w the other is v reg.
1.
https://www.gumtree.com/p/subaru/sub...ng-/1293987063
2.
https://www.gumtree.com/p/subaru/sub...750/1294583763

I like the slender look of the first one and don't like the bulky fat look of the second. They look like different cars to me though I think on paper they are the same car.

1. Are these the exact same car or do they have different dimensions? One just looks very bulky to me. It could be the black thing at the bottom of the front spoiler in link 2 and the bigger bonnet scoop give it the appearance of being bulkier and fatter but the dimensions of the car itself are the same, or are the dimensions different?

2. Assuming they are the same, if I just change the front spoiler and bonnet scoop I could get the slim look. can one keep the front bumper and remove the black strip at the bottom or does that come with the bumper in which case I'd need a new bumper?

based on what he has written, do u know how much i should expect to pay if i were to repair the first link?

thanks

Yes, they're both the same body style. The original 'Classic' as they're now known - covering 1992 through to 2000 (although the first UKDM cars weren't sold in the UK until 1994).

First thing: both have the high rear wing fitted from a MY99 STi 5 (Jap JDM higher performance variant)

Other that that the first car has no other external mods (other than wheels and a blue grille badge).

The second car - aside from its alloys painted white, STi cerise grille badges and the rear spoiler - has three (IMO, distasteful) mods done to the front end (giving that 'fat' look you don't like):

1). The central intercooler bonnet scoop has been replaced for the bigger, higher one from a later MY03-05 Blobeye STi.

2). The two bonnet vents either side of the scoop have been replaced with aftermarket 'mini scoops'. The idea being that they're 'supposed' to feed the engine bay with cold air (the driver side one, to feed an open air filter).

3). The front bumper has been fitted with an aftermarket Jun front splitter.

Bit of b/s from both sellers.

For a kick-off, Mica Blue was never the flagship rally colour, that was Sonic blue which is much lighter.

Both have the later bumper and grille, and yes, the lower black splitter shpould come off, unless it's been bonded.

The V reg car has had a new scoop and air vents, both should be easil;y replaceable. The W reg car has a o/s lower skirt missing, again, should be do-able.

One says 380bhp? But doesn't say what mods to achieve that: NOT easy on a UK car. One has an STi badge and doesn't look like one to me.

Both have aftermarket spoilers, and wheels

To repair the cheaper car? How long's a bit of string? How deep are your pockets? Under-car rust can be very expensive to remedy.

Both appear to be Turbo 2000s. Newage larger bonnet scoop, bonnet duct scoops and splitter are giving a bulkier look to the one. All of which are easily changed. Cheaper one looks like a right shed, the other not far behind. Money pits of rust I reckon. Sam

... But as alcazar eludes to, I wouldn't waste your time/money.

Lots more 'honest', nicer Classics out there (and that's being kind to both...esp. the first! ).

Both same car just different body mods. Second one is a shed and the first one looks Chaved up. You can easily remove decals. And rear spoiler can be changed if not to taste.

Bonnet vents can be replaced also with standard ones.

Go for first one and remove and replace what you don't like.

Are you referring to those being sold at 4k and above? I'm looking for some temp fun so dont really want to spend much but it seems anything at 2k is dying of rust and other ailments. Which type and at what cost do you think 'lots more honest nicer classics' are out there?

Well, the first one it's an utter shed - as reflected in the price. And the 2nd, a dog's dinner.

They're a relatively 'complicated' AWD, turbocharged car at the end of the day....so not really conducive to be buying bargain basement jobs. The two don't go hand in hand. As you could well ending up paying the same again on failed bits and bobs.* And then the fun aspect isn't fun anymore.

After all, you're already making noises about if you got one of them, you'll change this, alter that, etc. So you'd already be starting to expend 'dead' time & money even before you've started. And spending it on a 'knackered canvas', to boot.

But as, always, your money, your choice.

* That said, day to day, they're very reliable.

Yes I got that, I've previously bought a hyundai coupe for 1700 which was meant to be a run around for 3 months then spent over 2 k on repairs so I definitely don't want to experience that again. Wasn't the car itself that was bad just I bought one that hadn't been looked after.

However you didn't answer my question. When you say there's a lot more honest and nicer classics out there, how much are you saying I should expect to pay for these? The only ones that have any guarantee or sound okay are those being sold by traders and they are a few starting at 4k.

Are you saying I should spend 4k for a car that I just want for temp fun months or are you saying you have seen a lot of good examples for much less because as I've been looking, cant say I see many.

How much do you think I should spend?

thanks

Sorry, yeah, I overlooked the first sentence where you said 4k.

Yeah, around that mark. It wasn't that long ago where 1.5k would have got an 'okay' Turbo 2000 or early WRX. But prices have been steadily rising, as their 'classic' status is being recognised. This is happening with lots of marques, not just the Impreza.

And when I say lots*, that's a relative term...when compared to those two examples. In that there are 'many' more examples nicer than those floating about. All you have to do, is search out ads using google.

* I think someone posted last week that there are now 'only' 3,500 (IIRC) Classics on the road in the UK!

That said, if you literally just want to buy a car and go hooning straight away and not caring about looks, condition etc, then that first one might indeed fit the bill.

But it was because you mentioned about changing bits on it, etc, that I assumed you were (going to be) more ('emotionally') invested in it.

So thought it wouldn't really cut it.

Hence buying a nicer, cleaner example, whose external appearance would be more to your liking, so you wouldn't have to bugger about with it, and could just get on and start enjoying it.

That was the main thrust to my two'penneth...
