Who has one fitted, are they any good ?
I had a brand new ACT sb10-xtss 6 speed fitted when my engine was fitted.
it seems to slip and stink most of the time. I dont think its up to the job.
So it looks like i need to upgrade my clutch.
Exedy twinplate seems to be what i need unless someone can suggest a different clutch.
Next question who does a good deal ?
They are quite sharp, some get on with them, others don't.
Competition Clutch stage 2 is a decent single plate alternative, you won't shift as quickly but it's more everyday usable IMHO.
They can be a bit on the sharp side if you have never driven with one before ,but Dave is accustomed to already driving with the act clutch so he will be fine.SJ.
Plus it sounds like his clutch was already faulty or it was bedded in wrong,as a lot of people fit a clutch and start given it the full beans before running the clutch in...as it should be recommended by any clutch manufacturer and is on most performance clutch advice info....including Exedys.SJ.
Lee Calthorpe has one for sale. Done about 15 mins I think.
He is on here as bmwrallycar
The extreme clutch i have For Sale is awesome, i ran just under 700hp and 640lb/ft with it and no problems at all comes complete and has only done less than 12miles so near brand new im after £600 but open to sensible offers .
inbox me for interest
Look at xtreme clutch made in Australia also, their twin plate comes in about £1k and is getting a good name for itself, I believe mad hammer runs one on his 8 second car.
excedy twin has been proven over the years but it's not cheap.
I’ve got the Exedy hyper twin plate fitted to the track car and the Evo, awesome imho. Not that bad for daily use, I abuse them and they’re still going strong.
I’ve got an act 5 speed clutch, running a 6 speed box and it’s perfect. No smell apart from if you launch. Are the 6 & 5’s different?
I would say size...as the same can be said for the Exedy 5 speed clutch, which can also fit into a 6 speed box but the 6 speed clutch and flywheel cannot fit in to a 5 speed bell housing.....SJ.
All sorted i have done a deal with Lee on the clutch he had for sale.
When it has been fitted i will let you know the state of the ACT and give my opinion on the Extreme.
Thanks for all the input.

Those Extreme clutches are very good as it goes...I was talking to my mate last night about this thread and he said that he had one of the Extreme clutches fitted to his Mitsi Evo that I drove a few months ago "which I did not know",and to my recollection it drove fine and his car is running around 520bhp,so the Extreme clutch is a good punt, let us know how you get on with it Dave when fitted and you have driven with it for a while.SJ.
ACT fitted wrong or faulty from the start by the sounds of it, ran an ACT at 601/530 torque not a single issue, preferred it to the exedy twin I had on the previous car and cheaper to replace the friction plate should the need arise.

have supplied the Extreme Twin plate for years and have plenty of competition cars running them without issue albeit you shouldn't have any issues with an ACT anyhows.......
i had a competition clutch twin plate in my type R, felt initially a bit bitey compared to the old one but once used to it was perfectly fine even for pottering around town.
I do have an issue Alyn with the ACT ,any slow manoeuvres and it smells like it's slipping.
does it slip when foot hard down out on the open road?
I have the same clutch and it does smell when I'm reversing the caravan up on to our gravel drive but then I'm riding the clutch as I've only inches to spare. It doesn't happen when reversing the car normally.
