I’ve found a ap 7040 set up for sale, now I no they have been replaced with the
Forged 9040 but would people still think the 7040 is a good choice of calliper...

This would be my first set of ap’s so looking for abit of advise really... ideally was looking for the 9040 but I guess hitting a used set will be pretty difficult...

Currently have bembos all round and will be just replacing the fronts for the time been...

I believe the ap’s I’m buying come with ds2500 pads and 362mm discs

Yes a very good caliper which we have used for many years , even on rally cars , the difference with the 9040 caliper is they are forged , the 7040 are cast , apart from that they are nigh on identical , same pads , pistons and seals , and the mounting points are exactly the same , so at a later date if you found a pair of 9040 calipers , they would be a direct swap.
Very good dust seals on them , and will go for many years before needing looking at.

We have only ever reconditioned 2 pairs of 7040 calipers

used 7040 could be had for 1k , new 9040 around 1.9k with lines
7040 still good
9040 twice a price but im after new sets when buying suspension components

The 9040 calipers are the same price as 7040 used to be , been a few price increases over the years , they are not twice the price !
