Default How long would a Subaru Turbo 2000 last?

So I'm looking at ebay for a subaru turbo and I notice they are all 100-140 miles with a few exceptions e.g. I saw one 190 today. Is this because this is the average and they all started dying out after 100-140?

I had some guy come up to me other day asking bout my Impreza. Said you shouldn't map them as the engines are not reliable. So set him straight. Subaru classic engines are bullet proof. It's the stupid people who own them that make them not as reliable.

I've owned a few non turbo's and they will survive anything. The thing is with the turbo models, there a high stressed engine, so need looking after. That means regular oil changes warming engine before boosting. Not shutting engine off straight away if you've been driving hard. All things a lot drivers don't do. These cars will be driven hard most of there life's so will need looking after.

Sadly for most that's not the case.

MY mate just bought one recently from wales i drove it back too Scotland for him it has 150k on it and runs and drives spot on, how the car is looked after is more important than the miles its clocked up.

My mate went to look at a few impreza's and they were sheds. One had no oil on the stick, guy said take it for a spin, mate said it smelt like it was about to blow up.

Other one went and saw was abit messes, water was dirty, just looked like not been looked after.

I bought some parts of a guy who was telling me about his Impreza he blew engine up twice, swapped aload of parts over off a 350bhp car. didn't sound like he had it mapped to his car.

This is what some people are like, its avoiding buying cars from them. If it had done 150,000 miles i'd want fsh or someway of seeing it had been well looked after.

nto to mention the fact there's every possibility that it's on it's 4th or 5th engine by that point, if it hadn't been looked after in the past!

Unfortunately the head gaskets do go eventually and there's nothing you can really do to prevent it. Once that happens, its common for the bottom end to knock before long if you only refresh the gaskets while the engine is apart.

There's no set mileage it happens at, but I don't think many make it as far 200k without a rebuild.

My old WRX has somehow made it to 24 years old and 93k miles without opening the engine though

Really?? The classics are well known for it with the age they are at. Every reputable engine builder recommends a rebuild of the bottom end at the same time.

the newest classic is now 17 years old - doing the bottom end as well(splitting the block) will probably write alot of cars off, even though i would say that a fresh bearing and gasket combo will probably allow another 100k miles out of the engine.be hard to keep the bill under £1k though unless pulling engine out yourself and delivering it for refreshing.

An even worse response to hide your arrogance, and lack of general knowledge.

I have as said, just not a common thing I've heard of. Eg the mg and rovers were known for it. And since I know a few Subaru owners and no ones ever had this issue.
