Default question about exhaust sections

my blob wrx has the following

back box
centre section
downpipe

now my DP to centre section doesnt have a flange fitting, its a slot in type, the DP does have a piece of pipe welded on to it to allow the centre section to fit into it, ive been looking at centre sections and they all seen to have a flange fitting, so im guessing the previous owner cut off (for some reason) the DP flange?

Probably A downpipe from a classic mated to a new age centre section. The length is different so it would have required the modification.
To fit a different centre section you will either need to get another downpipe or get a flange welded onto your current one.
