Default Engine swap is a no go.

So after buying a classic wagon in the hope of doing an engine swap as the last one was full of rust I've been advised not to bother.

As much as the classic is solid, the chap who gave the brakes a quick overhaul yesterday because of a squeaking sound said he thinks the chassis wouldn't be able to take the power of the other engine.

I can kinda see his point but now i don't know what to do. Do it sell the wagon and buy a shell and do some crazy build (but on a very limited budget)

or

do i keep the wagon and keep trying to sell the engine box etc and forget about it.

Looking for and at shells and the isn't many about and they aren't cheap either.

That sounds like a load of old rubbish.

why wouldn't it be able to take the power?

Agree with Henrik.
What was the reason the chassis won't take the power?
Very strange thing to say.

No idea. he just said even upgrading the brakes putting an engine running 340+ wouldn't be advisable.

As above... sounds like a bit of a stupid thing to say... unless this chassis is also rotten.

Also nothing to stop you investing in a welder and repairing the problems yourself... welding just takes practice and plenty of youtube vids to show you how.

Same again complete rubbish. You can always weld in new pieces to strengthen the body to make it more ridged. But not for any other reason.

As said if the chassis is ok, what's the problem? 300 is not advisable on a subaru chassis lads have been running that level of power with red tops and the like on VAUXHALL NOVA 's for years

The car is solid. Its had some weld repairs done to it previous but they have been done to a high standard. Its got a good set of clean rear arches (one of the main reasons for buying) apart from the same crack in the paint where the wheel was hitting he arch at the back due to a strut going. its a clean example. I think the chap thought it was wasted due to be a clean example with full service.

Just throw up some concerns due to buying parts for the swap.

I still don't get why he said the chassis wouldn't take 340+bhp?
Surely a nice clean example is the best base car to work on and power upgrade.
