it's why I always try to refurb if it's only things like seals etc or just buy a genuine brand new unit for piece of mind
how do I deal with this situation?
New seals or unit?
What's actually making the whining noise? and there's bubbles in the reservoir tank but go away when there's no noise it's intermittent at the moment
First time I've come across one whining in over ten years of scoobyness

For the Blobeye pump you can get all the bits and pieces, for MY03 onwards not.

Zany for the cost and the hassle of stripping and rebuilding the pump yourself...dont forget its easy to nip a seal or damage an o ring during this process just to find its still not right it might not even be the origional problem if you have big pockets buy a new one with a guarantee or just pop over to scoobyspares or phone Matty at MB Developments and get a good second hand one they arnt that expensive second hand and you will still get some sort of guarantee

you may want to check pump style first as pulley wont come off without a press if its not on with nut. The pumps that have allen key on front is actually part of pump shaft and not a retainer, their pulleys are press fit, i dint know this till after i took one apart and bent the pulley in process.

It's one of those things that gets overlooked along with the clutch fluid, although mine has only done 72k it's over 18 years old and I doubt either had been done, both were black, for the sake of an hours work I've quietened down my power steering pump and the clutch pedal doesn't go hard when sat in traffic now.

After a long thought as my brother doesn't have deep pockets and a little research I'll be changing all fluid out today and if not right plan B
Plan B is to get another used unit and refurb it myself replacing the rings and bearing as it has been done on an American thread before
Hope fluid change works but I'm still going to refurb one unit myself just incase mine goes in future or his

Hi just google it mate and loads of DIFFRENT threads come up showing how to do it
I'm getting a used unit for myself just incase I need one in the future and refurb it when I need to as no point replacing the seals and bearing then leaving it in the shed for a rainy day.

Good job.Always a result when you think it's going to cost a fortune & ends up a nice cheap fix. Thanks in no small part to the immense knowledge on here.
Just wanted to ask if the old fluid looked any different to the new stuff?
I guess a few people will be checking theirs now.

fluids were not as clean as what went in that's for sure
Mine had a slight judder when driving through the steering ever since I've had it and a ever so slight whine that's gone now aswell font know why I hadn't done mine ages ago
both cars much smoother but then again over 13 year old oil is never going to be right
Also the bubble foaming in my brothers pas reservoir was caused by the pas oils anti foaming properties deteriorating
the new pas oil you can see circulating perfectly no bubbles noise has gone totally as well
